Hello everyone I have just bought a second hand 2017 Discovery TD6 SE with 86,000 klm, I have driven it for about 200 klm all fine, I parked it and fitted car seat covers part of the way through doing that a warning came on the display that the battery low and to start the car which I did, I finished the car seat covers and took it for a drive and about 5klm into the drive the dash displayed "engine overheating" and the temp was showing hot, I stopped checked under the bonnet checked the fluid reservoir all ok, no steaming or smells of heat, the fans stopped so I drove on and the temp was normal for a few klm then it started to rise and fall, I stopped to chjeck again and double locked it hoping it might reset, after a few klm the temp guage starting moving again but it was erratic I drove home and am at a loss?

hiya

personally I would first ensure ur battery is ok, pop into Halfords as they do free battery checks , really need to ensure it’s fully charged otherwise it can cause all sorts of issues, will also ensure the alternator is working properly

assume urs is stop start, if so need to ensure that battery is also ok and fully charged

if u haven’t got a charger a CTEK are very good

after that if the problems persist would get diagnostics plugged in , alas can’t plug a cheap code reader in die to the complexity of the vehicle and can give u the wrong codes

hope that helps

Plus also heard a crank anti-vibration damper pulley can fail , but always best to start with the basics first

hope that helps

Thank you, I've replaced the battery and driven around for a few hours now all good even checked the temperature with a thermal imager sitting at 71 deg on the radiator hoses, block etc temperature is steady at normal.
Have a great Christmas you are the best!

Hi, then the problem could be with the coolant temp sensor or it's circuit. You have to replace the sensor first to rule it out before you start chasing wiring issues uneless it's not something obvious at it's plug or visible wiring.
