What MPG can you realistically get from a Landy/Disco?

The mpg gain is likely to be slightly worse however the extra torque should help to keep the speed above 52mph when on the motorways and climbing. The longer I keep top gear locked in the less rpm.
Incidently Browns Fuel is H2O2 and is achieved in short quantities by using relatively low cost electrolysis equipment and water. Read that it works really well on BIG American engines.

I am getting 34.5mpg out of my L reg 300tdi and i am not known for driving slowly!!! My daughter is achieving 33mpg out of her F reg 90TD, that is on 235/80 x 16 Trac Edges (speedo corrected for larger tyres). Barry

94 M 300 tdi. I get anywhere between 25-30 mpg and this after tweaking the pump, filter and pipe. I tow quite regularly (2.5) tons and feel this is not bad when I sit on the mway at 80mph. My advice is BF goodrich a/ts and blow them up hard if on the road and do not rev the bugger or try to whup Imprezers of the line and you should be fine.

Bought our first 300tdi Discovery a week yesterday and the warning light had just come on when I put 80 litres in.So far done 530 miles and the gauge shows 1/4 tank left!!Not bad eh!

So it's either a good un or the speedo's knacked!

Previouse owner claimed he put a flusher in with oil change every 5k which might have somthing to do with good consumption

driving like a fool i get 26mpg ish from a 300tdi disco - 1998 vintage.

driving sensibly or on motorways and staying just below 70 it'll go over 30......

but who buys a landy for economy??????

not got time to work it out as am off out the door but my 200tdi 175k 93 gets about 120mile to a tenner diesel @ 79.9p pg anyone wanna work this out? i use motorways as a daily commute and do 18mile there and 18 mile back, only 2 mile is town work. happy equasions! ;-)

Amazingly the LR handbook in my 96 300TDi says that at a constant 56Mph it should return 42MPG. The only true way to fing your MPG accurately is to fill up at your local station until it clicks. Drive a couple of hundred miles then go back to the same station and same pump and fill up again until it clicks. Then work out how many gallons you have put in (Litres divided by 4.55). Then take the number of miles driven and divide by the number of gallons used. Too early to say how mine is doing as Ive only had it a week! I'll let you know.

Just worked out some figures on fuel usage. I have done 460 miles since buying the disco 2 weeks ago. I have put £70 in it which equates to 16 gallons and the fuel gauge is exactly where it was when I bought it which was bang on the 1/4 mark. Now I know this isnt the most precise way to work it out but it tells me that it has averaged 28.75mpg (+/-). Just had a service and the cat was clogged and the air filter was like a breezeblock according to the mechanic. EGR is coming off and the timing will be tweaked next service. I would say that things can only get better. They reckoned my disco wasnt even run in yet at 104K theres has 600K on the clock!

About 13 - 14 to the gallon from my V8 Discovery, but I'm loving it!!!

Have got a 2.0 TDI 4 Motion Golf to be sensible in!?

I regularly got 24mpg combined (city and highway) outof my 300Tdi auto. Acurate too as i always use the same pump to fill.

My 300tdi auto returns 27/28 on reasonably long trips (80-100 miles) and 25-26 towing my 20' caravan.
I've done 16000 miles in it and never had 30mpg yet.

Autos tend to be a bit more thirsty due to power loss through the torque converter I think. I would be well chuffed to get 30 or more. The guy servicing this one reckons the more miles they do and looser they get the more MPG you can expect. He says at 104K mine isnt even run in yet. Their Disco 200TDi has 600k on the clock!

Fair play to him.
A motor can only get SO loose before it becomes TOO loose and needs a rebuild.
Be surprised if his motor hasn't been rebuilt which would obviously take hime back to square one as far as loose is concerned.
Seems a bit optimistic on the same engine but I guess it's possible..I'm no expert!!

I realise that. Obviously with wear comes loss of compression etc. I am not sure if its been rebuilt or not. All I know is its a H reg and it looks spot on and sounds just as spot on. Does anyone know of any other similar claims of longevity of a LR engine?

I guess it's like anything mechanical, if you nurture it, it should last.
I did hear of a pug 309 with over 500,000 on the same lump when Top Gear did a survey once.
It's largely about care and servicing after all.

well I filled it right up today and it was scary £70 and the fuel light hadnt yet come on! I will make another comment when I fill up again at the same pump and give you my average mpg.

You're right it is scary.
In fact it can be pretty depressing, especially when you're doing around 1000 miles a week as I was until recently.
Funny how they all vary tho.
I had a 95 300 manual and I was lucky to get 24 mpg out of it.

Errr, just filled up again at the same garage and same pump having done 147 miles. It took 26 litres which I calculate to be........ 24mpg

Thought it would be better than that, does it make any difference how carefully you drive it?
