Poor private owner maintenance by the hard up second/third/fourth owner? Design life of 5 to 7 years 100K miles??

I never cease to be surprised at the crap quality of various parts. The latest is the lower tailgate support straps, rusted to buggery. No excuse for that, the highly stressed shrouds on my sailboat were rust free despite the salt after 10 years when they were replaced because of the risk of metal fatigue. A flat hinged folding metal strap would have been better and there is plenty of room.

I agree with that, would have been a much better design - trying to remember what system the Classic used? The P38 I'm looking at, the mounting by the taillight on the O/S strap is rusted to buggery and the strap has come away, will need sorting if I buy it...

Island 4 x 4 were the cheapest I found for the straps, £10.81 compared to up £30 some places:)

301,462 miles and staggering on,after numerous blasts across Europe/Asia including 8 days in low ratio, the box, R380, is not happy, three month oil change came out black and the clink of two needle rollers. All i want for Christmas is Amazon quality and diffs in a Range-Rover!

my Hippo is at 116,000, thought I blew the engine at 72,000 (15,000 miles without adding any oil.....) now looking to refurbish it to go off road properly (a 4x4 that does not have a locking diff. is less than useless. needs yet another new air bang FNS, proper tyres, hydraulic winch and chipped suspension and engine. I am based in Cheshire, who cab do this work for a reasonable price?

7 miles off 114k, it's my daily transport and tows my 24ft caravan. I've done over 30k since buying it and only had wear & tear work to do on it (Inc Arnott's all round).
