What's the mileage of your Range Rover P38? (1994 to 2002)

I realise it's probably impossible to answer, but which makes the biggest difference to the reliability & chance of something going wrong, mileage or age? So would a '96 with 80k be a better buy than a 2001 with 150k all else being equal?

My guess would be neither - maintenance and how it's been used are the two big unknowns! :rolleyes:

If 2 year old car sat in a garage unused with 100,000 miles on it and

A 3 year old car with 1000 miles on it what would of been used the most ? ( worn more)


If you have used some thing for 1 hour or you have used some thing for 50 hours what would have worn parts the most

There were electronic and other improvements I believe post 99MY aimed at improving reliability, so you are comparing chalk and cheese. I would go for the later model year if it's a diesel.
 
Common sense dictates that the later the model is in it's production life, the more reliable it should be, as niggles, gremlins are 'ironed out' during the real world rigours. It's part of any Product Lifecycle.....hence the reason i own a last off the production line 2002 p38.

I'd agree with that key fob Recognisation being one of them ;)

What number head gasket are you on now? :p
 
I'm on my second p38 this one is a 1998 auto diesel with 263,000 miles on it and it runs quite well it's all down to how well they have been looked after this one has had oil changes every 6-7 thousand miles from new and it seems to have keep it going up to the millage it is at now
 
Yup! My local dealership were stunned when they saw it.....all the sales staff and mechs came out to have a look at it.....reckoned it was the cleanest, sweetest P38 they'd seen for a long time. It only had 17,000 on the clock when I bought her two years ago....she only goes out on weekends and holidays, so is a bit cosseted......plus the cost of bloody petrol keeps the mileage low as well!! I'm seriously thinking about gas conversions now!
 
With that sort of mileage don't bother. The costs of carrying out the conversion, plus the additional service costs, you'll never make your money back.
 
You got a good point there Bix ol'chap !.....She aint too bad for a big V8 really, as she's running as sweet as a nut, and shes as tight as a nuns nether regions!! She's hardly run in as my service man says. I reckon she has to be one of the lowest milage P38s in the country.....if not the lowest?
 
114k and the engine is amazing but anything with a bearing in it has been taking a dump in turn. Aux belt idlers,tensioner and Alternator rear bearing, Front wheel bearings and rear wheel bearings have all failed in my ownership. I can only put it down to the car living in Exmoor and only doing short runs all the time. Maybe the lanes were prone to flooding and due to the short runs the bearings never got to dry out. All the ones I replaced were all really rusty. When I took the car for test drive it was all nice and quiet. Then I drove it the 130 odd miles home and I was writing a list as they all started to fail!!! Oh well such is life. :5bblush5::5bblush5: It's lovely and quiet now.
