Hi all

i have some missing lamps on my dashboard - the SRS and ABS most notable by there absence, i'm guessing there's a fault and the geezer that sold me it took the lamps out to mask the fault.

These lamps do not show at start-up which is why im guessing lamps gone / missing, fuses are ok.

What type of lamp do i need to buy so i can get some before ripping into my dashboard??

No doubt i'll be back when they are working, trying to find out why they are on all the time :)

Thanks

Dave

BTW, its a Disco-1, 300tdi es, late 1994.

dont know about the lamps but they seem to be common faults on the 300tdi

ABS fault can be found by using a paperclip test - there is a thread on here will try to find it for you. EDIT: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/591887-post33.html

SRS is usually more expensive a new collar can be required at a cost of a couple of hundred quid so tends to be ignored by a few on here :(

What collar would that be ??

sorry might be getting confused been looking through previous threads and could be a loose wire/connection but a search should help you.

am sure i read somewhere that there is a collar around the steering column area that has had to be replaced on some models to get the light off. EDIT: rotary coupler http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/591887-post33.html so hoping its just a loose wire :)

I'm confused now, i think there is a collar on the steering column that swivels with the wheel, but thats too far advanced, i need to get the lamps working first ;)

both SRS and ABS will light up when ignition is switched on, the SRS should go out before you start the engine but the ABS will stay on until the wheels have done a couple of rotations so it can do a check.

Might also be worth checking to see if the SRS fuse has been pulled (drivers side fuse box with a yellow clip over it iirc) as have been told that is one way to get the light to stay out.

ABS have not found a way of keeping the light out unless removed or faulty as you say.

hope you sort it

This may shound like a daft question but are you sure your disco has ABS and Airbags fitted?

:DYes i thought that too. A quick look shows the ABS modulator in the brake lines, on the N/S front arch. Digging a bit deeper shows the yellow ABS sensor on the front chassis and yellow looms all over, plus of course the air bags in the wheel and dash;)

I just have a sneaky feeling they were disabled to get it an MOT or sale etc as i thought a permanently lit ABS lamp was a failure??

It may just be a case of blown lamps but i doubt it:mad:

Regarding the ABS it has a "warning lamp relay", (left side under the pannel).......take it out and bridge terminals 30 and 87A......if the lamp does not illuminate then it's the bulb(or the wiring)

I'm in a poor signal area with GPRS connection and the net is working like sh*t.......if u want PM me your mail adress and i'll send u the diagrams and diagnostic procedures for ABS and SRS from Autodata.......will be mdi. format so u have to convert it on pdf if no "microsoft document imaging" installed(there are online converters)....that's the best i can do to help u in these conditions.
