As the title says. I have two bottle jacks but only half of one handle, I am thinking of getting a hi-lift and putting it I the back somewhere.

Mercedes sprinter bottle. Comes complete with shaped cup to fit axle and lifts plenty high enough.
Also there are millions of them on fleabay for about £20 each. I think they get removed from fleet and rental vans as all the ones I've seen are brand new.

20 Tonne bottle jack. I gave up with the high lift jack, it's in the back of my garage somewhere. I found they are dangerous, My Defender has fallen off it several times and the dam thing has damaged the bodywork on a several occasions.

That's a damn good idea. The standard jack works but takes an age to raise the Landy as you can only turn the ratchet a half turn at a time.
I'm going on Ebay now!

No, I carry a bottle and a trolley, use to carry a hilift as well but would always, always use one of the other two if it was an option.

Carrying only a hilift and having to use it for punctures is madness imo

I think carrying just a hi lift would come under the 'all the gear' type of person

Sorry chap, perhaps you mis-read the OP... "what type of jack do you carry ?",

I am confused?

I have found a hi lift to be useful when I have borrowed one to jack a tree out the way but beyond that have never needed more than a bottle jack and remain unconvinced about a hi lift - IMO they are often purchased as a 'must have' piece of 4x4 kit without consideration of how freaking dangerous they can be

I have a high lift and its happily in the garage, they are good for getting tyres off if you need to fix a puncture for breaking the beads. And moving the car around by raising it and dropping it off the jack.

For chaging the tyres and maintenance I have a 6 tonne bottle jack and axel stands.

Good use for a farm type hi lift is to Jack you up out of ruts then you push it off the Jack out of the rut
