What is this fan for?

There is a small fan in my dashboard, to the right of the steering wheel down beside the headlight height adjustment switch. The only reason I even know its there is because its noisy in operation with the ignition switched on you can hear it running as if it has a worn bearing, making a grating noise. Dont hear it with the engine running.
What is it for, do I need it or can I just disconnect it?
 
I don't know what "Supplientary" is, but it's an air temp sensor and part of your climate controlled air con system, it shouldn't be noisy but it has been mentioned before in threads and cleaning of the item of dust seems to be the advice given.
 
What I've never understood is how the climate control can have different target temperatures for right & left side when there's only one sensor.
 
it measures the overall temp in the cabin, the temp settings for both sides are subject of complicated calculations made by the software of ATC ECU to addapt the amount of blown cold or warm air each side, the temp settings are more for reference to make the difference not exact temperatures if you see what i mean

about the noise it makes, it must be removed cleaned and lubed at the ends of rotor's shaft
