What have you done to your Freelander today

Probably! I wrote it badly. What I meant was I asked for the emissions to be done first, a. While engine hot and b. If it fails on that no point continuing until fixed.

It was ok. There's a special tool you need to get the pump off and you'd really struggle without it. I got the Sealy version and there was an issue with the support sleeve not screwing in very far (damaged thread on it I think) but the pump came out easily enough. Because I had bought a donor engine I had all the attached pipe work, so I just swapped it all over as one unit. If you check on my thread of Jan 31st you will see Arctic 2 posted steps with pics and Nodge and others helped to isolate the fault back to the HPFP. I started the thread with a video showing a lot of smoke, hoping it was an injector issue. The pump I took off actually looks in pretty good nick, but obviously the seals have gone inside.

Put the original wheels with the 235/50 tyre size for the long weekend trip down to Reading
It’s definitely driving better but now I think I prefer the black wheels and big tyres 🤦🏻‍♂️


as anyone tried a iPad mini as satnav in the cup holders?
I am hoping it works as good as the phone jammed in there but due to my eyes getting old I am struggling with reading the speed limit on the phone so hopefully this will work and keep me point free
 
890m since Friday afternoon never missed a beat until I got home and the near side dip bulb gave in
So a successful first major run out 😁

Picked up a double boot cover from facebook marketplace on the way home so extremely happy with that didn’t know Land Rover made such a item

Scotlands west cost at Easter with the dogs I am thinking 🤔 for the next one

Our old 6 berth Mitsubishi Canter camper/motor homes have done 400k miles.

Mind you, they breakdown like a motor that's done 400k miles!

They are though fookin awesome beasts to drive :D

We sold most of them off last winter.

One chap, a really nice bloke, who bought 1 and lives quite close to our Christchurch depot and has been in a couple of times to get bits fixed, they're sold with a 6 month warranty. Even though they are high mileage, he would have paid good money for it, and he has subsequently lavished heaps of time, love and money on it - complete new paint job, new beds, lots of stuff...

I was manning the tech support/breakdown line yesterday and I take a call... Hello he says, this is Ken whatever from Fire Investigation NZ... I'm representing someone who bought 1 of your campers, he had a problem with the cooker grill not holding a flame and you said to get a gas fitter to replace the thermocouple/flame sensor and send the bill to you... well he did that and the gas fitter burnt his camper to the ground!!! Not only that, the camper fire spread to his house and burnt that to the ground, damaged the houses either side, and totalled a car. 24 fire brigade staff and 12 police were in attendance!!!!
 
Today I received a delivery of some Bower's and Wilkins door speakers from Jaguar XF (they share quite a lot of parts with the FL2) which are going in the front doors. I don't know if they'll be a noticeable difference in sound, but it'll be good to find out.

What a nightmare.
Presumably the gas fitter's insurance will cover the damage?

Holy smoke Batman! Hope no-one was hurt.

P.S. That’s why 3rd party cover for my boat runs at £5 million. Easy to run up a claim like that in a marina if your boat goes up in flames.

Plot twist - the guy used ‘Don’ from down the road - he offered to do it for half the price. He knows DIY.

Yeh, there is and I believe this guy was. Just that there may be an issue as to whether he had liability insurance, or correct/enough insurance.

We had a van come in end of last week where the stove burners were only giving a tiny flame ans the gas heater was playing up. When I weighed the gas bottles 1 was overfilled by a kilo (these are 4kg bottles). So that was replaced. I tested stove and heater - all OK, so the van went out. I got a call on Sunday from 1 of the other guys to say this van was back in the yard because the flame was tiny again.

Talking to him it was concluded (not difficult really) that the regulator was faulty. We had a new 1 in the parts room but I recommended that he should not fit it, that it should be done by a register gas fitter. So I suggested that we give the guy the regulator to carry in the van and that on Monday we would organise for a gas fitter to fit it where ever he is. We also gave him a portable gas cooker to be getting on with.

Anyway, this guy was off grid and next we know he's back in the yard Tuesday morning. Another 1 of our guys took the van (the type that knows a little bit and think he knows everything) and says the regulator just needs adjustment. I know little about these things but suggest to him that the safest thing we can do is get the regulator replaced as this can't fail on the customer again and has been intermittently working so we don't really know if it is properly fixed. He pooh poohs me, adjusts the regulator and hands the van back with a working flame.

The customer hadn't even left the yard and it had failed again!

So "know it all" then decides to change the regulator. I tell him that we should get a registered guy to fit it, but he knows best and changes it. It "should" be OK, but that's not really what you want is it!
