I think the seats are slightly more comfortable in a face lift (S spec anyway, can't comment on other specs) Can't think of anything else I prefer about faclift cars.
My seats are comfortable, but they aren't standard SE seats. In fact I don't know what seats I have? I've never seen any the same as mine. They aren't HSE seats as the style is completely different. I'd like to find a replacement cover for the driver's seat, but can't until I can identify what they are from.
Any help here is welcome :)

I prefer the look of the facelift bumpers and the lighting modifications that went on with the facelift. I always felt the pre-facelift headlights were poor at best, on dip beam anyway. I also felt that the tail lights didn't give a good idea of the width of vehicle, when viewed from behind, in the dark.
I also prefer the facelift interior look. I always felt the early interior looked old, even by 1998 standards. Just compare it to a much earlier Rover 800, too see what I mean. For me, the facelift was a welcome improvement in design, if lacking in quality some what.

I suspect that they're aftermarket seat replacement covers then factory fit

Look standard facelift seats but with different seat covers

I may be wrong but that's what I'd say

I had thought that myself to be honest. The basic style is that of the SE Altantara, but with added leather sections. I might pop a cover off to take a look.

I do like the facelift seats, very comfortable and supportive, so supportive I have to take my wallet out of my back pocket to avoid numb-bum. My wife likes them better than her Kia.
On my2004 V6 the only noise is tyre noise from the AT Tyres. Well, there is a tappet noise from the engine that comes and goes. You can't really hear it
in the cabin but it bothers me that it's there.
Fit and finish seems to be very good, but I don't have any BMWs or Audis to compare it to.

Washed it having bought it Saturday

Def agree the quality of the facelift vehicles seems lesser than the earlier ones , even some of the mouldings that look the same were poorer , toolbox and its yellow securing handle etc . Could also be that I had higher expectations having spent "real money" on my last one . Got this one needing an exhaust and a good clean for less than £400 which makes me feel better !

Good price for a nice looking car. K series 1.8?

Yep , all my Hippos have been K series , I'm too simple to understand diesels , nice lot of room under the bonnet with the petrol . All seems good so far.........

I don't understand diseasles either but I think it goes something like.
Squirt in HARD, squeeze tight until it bangs, fart all the crap out the back and do it all again. :p

Thought I'd fix the rear window wiper , didn't seem much of a problem the motor worked and with a bit of "help" the blade would move across the screen "obviously" just needs the nut tightening to hold the arm or some tin foil bodgery ....
Went to get the spare wheel off , I was surprised when buying it that the spare was neither punctured or worn out , in fact the Goodyear Wrangler still had the pimples on "never used it "said the PO . Yep , didn't use it as held in place with a locking wheel nut with no key ! two minutes and an undersized socket had it off though . The "obvious" problem being the nut was a bit loose , tightened it up and checked it , just as bad because the arm had broken at the hinge and was held together just by the spring tension . Digging in my "will be useful one day" box of wipers etc found a familiar looking bit of grey plastic , yep on a previous Hippo the wiper end of the arm was broken and I'd fitted a modified metal one and this was the only bit any use so I'd saved it - result . All working again at no cost and I stand a chance of getting the spare wheel off in the future should I need to . Enjoying meddling again .....

Today I fitted my trusty old Sony HU. It doesn't complement the console as well as the original HU.

However it is better equipped and has a much more power amplifier with adjustable filters. I have also gained a handy pocket to keep my phone in. I lined that in black felt, to reduce potential rattles.
Strangely the subwoofer output of the Sony seems to have some sort of issue.

I also crudely fitted some different resistors to the wheel switches, so those still work as they should.

So now I just need to finish my sub installation, and get the HU to output sub frequencies to it.
