Other what have u done on ur disco today

After fitting the snorkel the other week, I took the liberty of replacing the old plastic arches with some wider ones and also some wheel spacers (which by all account has strangely made the handling with the Mud tyres on better I think)
Will need to do the welding on the inner arches at the front next.
Installed and wired up the LED bar again after installing a new cable rather than the 5 bits twisted together that it came with when I purchased the Disco.

A good clay bar, polish and wax was done to the 18 year old paint work which came up great.

Wasnt that bad to be honest... Hardest thing was working out how to press in and out with the tools I had. Used heat, and a hammer, with a breaker bar, and a squirt of penetrating oil. Putting it back in, I have loads of old co2 fire extinguishers, so loosed one off into an old football sock, to make a pile of very cold dry ice. Stuck the joint in it for a bit, much colder than a freezer, and heated up the hole.... went in with a little persuasion.Top one, I just put a collar over it and brayed it in with a lump hammer, went in pretty easily.

I dont need to do the other side yet... Just got to put the rest of the steering together. Had that apart so many times its pretty easy now. Then carry on with the welding. Should be ready for an MOT next year...lol

Had to replace the o/s ride height sensor today as one of the new pair I fitted in Feb 21 & have only covered 8,021 miles  failed on Monday.
This has happened as I'm off to Cromer tonight for the week, I 'm sure LR's can sense when you need them most !
On another note I've noticed after fitting the new sensors the o/s is now 20mm lower than the n/s so the ride height needs recalibrating
20221021_120010.jpg
& my trusty Foxwell can't do that:rolleyes: so do any of the fine people on here know/recommended where I can get the suspension recalibrated in the Norfolk area as I'm there all week? Many thanks in advance.

hi mate - @Andy Warren

As u say always the way with landys, lol, heard a few people using this company

http://www.jsf4x4norfolk.co.uk/

also heard on the D3 forum the Autel AP200 can recalibrate suspension , found the link in case it’s useful to u , also just found the details and does say suspension, put ****** next to it for u, plus does SAS recalibration

ref

Support up to 19 specific functions, including Oil Reset, EPB, BMS, SAS, DPF, TPMS, IMMO, etc.

Other Service Functions
Additionally, the OBD2 code scanner AP200 also supports 17 more service functions for better vehicle diagnostics and maintenance, including: EPB/BMS/TPMS/Brake Bleed/DPF/IMMO Keys/SAS/ ******** Suspension *****( / Throttle/WIN DR ROOF,Seats,Odometer,Lang Change,Headlamp,CHG Tire Size,TEC Learn,Trans Adaption.

Have one of these myself which I keep in my glove box for convenience, must confess haven’t looked at the suspension data on the Autel as I’ve always used my gap iid ,

here’s also a link , £55.00 free postage

So now got the D3 all back together, ie, panels etc , turbo actuator greased , checked chassis front to back all sound , found a deep centre console tray , ah yes the simple things in life , lol , sound insulation for the engine cover , really pleased all the intercooler hoses are new , stainless steel at bolt clamps , did find greasing the turbo actuator arm a lot easier using a battery grease gun seeing it has a long hose

hope I never have to revisit the intercooler hoses etc as my god that air inlet duct was a complete and utter pig to do

now has a fresh mot , next plans ahead will be

Fit the 19 x wheels I’ve got in my shed , then a new set of falken wildpeak A/T3W tyres
New brake callipers all round , as some are sticking
new discs and pads all round
Front brakes to be upgraded to the larger V8 sized discs

replace rear lower wishbones
Rear tie bars

insulate under the bonnet

That should keep me busy , lol

then knowing me I’ll sell it and buy a D3/4 V8 ;)

Old girl sailed through her MOT, so that's nice :)

Now to find time in the next 10 days to replace the leaky top hose, and hope there's not an additional leak.

Next MOT for the money pit is in February for me...and there's no way it'll be ready by then. The previous owner(s) have rounded off, snapped or sheared every possible allen screw, bolt or fitting imaginable so just taking things off has become a test of endurance...not to mention my patience.

Hi @gstuart hope you're keeping well. Many thanks for the link, do these work on the D2 for suspension as well as the D3 ?
I gather & glad you've got the D3 singing like it should after the marathon session you've had with it:) you should give yourself a massive pat on the back, all the best Andy.

hi mate

ur so welcome , to be honest I’m not sure , think though the vehicle has to be obd2 compliant

did find the user manual if it’s of interest

https://www.autelstore.co.uk/upload/pro/autel-maxiap-ap200-user-manual.pdf

bless u and that’s very kind of u , indeed really did find some repairs really difficult , particularly replacing the air inlet tubing , that’s was a royal pain as had to push and pull at the same time to get it onto the turbo , then spent ages getting 3 x nuts and bolts back in , got some uj crows feet and the extended neck Milwaukee driver which really helped know-end

plus was reluctant to buy the smoke machine but that was worth every penny seeing it showed air leaks on the egr pipes , took the throttle body off and blanked it then used the smoke machine again to put a few psi and then sorted out the leaks

must confess the first time I took it down the road it went like a scolded cat , Christ it shifted and took me back particularly when the turbo came in , did put a smile on my face that’s for sure and felt super happy all the hard work paid off

just found this ref the scanner

The code reader car diagnostic tool works with most American, European and Asian OBDII-compliant models manufactured from 1996 and newer are covered by this OBD2 reader.

hope it’s useful to u

Thks again mate

The usual Disco TD5 injector seals for me yesterday after a day or 2 struggling to start the green monster. Going by the state of the rest of the Disco as I've been clambering around it since I bought it, I doubt the injector seals have ever been replaced...

As it turned out, I found out once I had the rocker box off and was about to start the job that my injector slide hammer was missing a few bits... I haven't used it for a few years. So, had to improvise...ended up that a leg from a 4" tripod style bearing puller did the job admirably, hooked it under the injector and gave it a sharp clout with a rubber mallet... replaced the injector harness as well since I had oil in the ECU plug. Buttoned up, tested and sounding decent now...job done :)

So since fitting the new ride height sensors the suspension has been fine (drive to Cromer & running about, about 200 miles). Got it booked in for calibration here (Thurs morning) & within a couple of hours it started it started going down to the bump stops . When the calibration was done they said the o/s air bag had cords showing & it had a leak, which is frustrating as it had been fine for nearly a week. Anyway no one can fit a bag until mid Nov down here trouble is I go home Sat ! Overnight Thurs & up until this posting, veh not used, the suspension has stayed up so I've ordered two new Dunlop bags with clips & hope I can get it home without incident & fit the new bags then.:)

i disconnected the MAF to see what would happen
car was smoking more than normal so i thought id try MAF unplugged
it still runs exactly the same as it did but doesn't smoke

Im confused now !!!

hi

think when u unplug the MaF it goes back to the PCM preset values , wonder if you’ve got a split intercooler hose ??

sorry that’s not much help but the D2 gurus should be along to help further

hi mate

may I ask have u gone round to see what the ride level heights are in normal ride height plse

Also used Dunlop airbags for the fronts and been pleased with them, plus weren’t that bad to change , did find out when they arrived there were no nuts for the top 3 x fixings, also removed the Voss connector and used brass push in fittings which made life a lot easier in getting the pipe in , saved messing around trying to get a spanner to tighten a Voss connector up

plus they only leaked in access height because of the rubber being more exposed out of the casing , then after removal pumped them up to see exactly where they were leaking from

hope all goes well and also noticed a lot of difference when I fitted new struts
