Over the weekend, I drove 160 miles round trip to Northampton. This was the first time I drove it farther than the normal 20 mile radius of my house just in case she broke down on me. Everything went great with no problems!
I monitored my motorway engine temps with UltraGauge Blue going 55-60 MPH at ambient temps of 20 degrees I was getting 86-89 coolant temps.

Few bits I got done this week:
New roof rack installed.
This is my own design since I couldn't find what I wanted for less than £1kish. Lights are wired up and work a treat - just need to finish sealing them up with heat shrink.
Also made some electrical additions:
This hooks up two additional SLA batteries in the boot for split-charging, protecting the main battery and allowing chargers and other bits and pieces to be used while the car is off.
Next up is to get the puddle lights mounted under the running bars, and a relay on the stereo's power so it can be used while the car is off.

Removed the front towball bracket as we haven't towed anything for a while and there is no point in carrying around the unnecessary weight. Just 4 bolts but as usual get rust in my mouth and eyes.

Got rid of my three friends at last on Saturday. Replacement abs pump and shuttle valve switch fitted, side steps removed ready for the rock sliders, and the annoying rear step to the back door is finally gone!!!
Now, I need to get an MOT, then I'll be getting the new hd rear bumper fitted along with the rock sliders.

Finally managed to get a decent discovery 4 steering wheel to replace my worn D3 wheel
Should be fun doing the retro fit , looks like wiring , cruise control switch pack and an extra module is required

I bought a nice Dremel #2000-01 butane soldering torch pen kit.
I was getting tired lugging my Aoyue soldering station and a 20 meter extension power cord to do simple wire bundles soldering on Myrtle.

I drove 2 hours yesterday to buy a Nanocom Evo for £180 ($233).
It’s for a TD5 Disco 2 but I can buy an unlock code for $64 to add V8. Score!
But first, I must update it...

Replaced starter motor & then had to fit gearbox bias plate & springs as the gear stick was falling
to the left & selecting gears was like stirring soup...….. once I had the centre console out I noticed
someone had a try at making the gear stick keep centred by carefully selecting a couple of washers
& inserting them into the gator lol
Now the gear changes are silky smooth & went for a drive only to hear a drone from the osf wheel
need to have a look tomorrow I hope its just the bearing

Got back to N.Yorks from a fortnight in Dorset yesterday evening. '03 D2 pulled the van really well, but a couple of things to report.
1) Having needed to drop to 3rd to retain some forward momentum on a couple of hills on the way down, something just didn't seem right. She felt sluggish, even after a full service the week before the trip. She just felt lethargic, which was surprising given the remap. So, I went to Autobitz in Dorchester and the manager advised that I try a shot of Ecomotive Clean Drive...I know, but I just thought it might be worth a go. Anyway, I didn't really notice a great deal of difference dawdling around the lanes (one of our relaxing holiday pass times), but yesterday...Flippin'eck!! She pulled up everything the M5/M6 threw at us in terms of long gradients, like a train in 5th. What a difference from the trip down. I'm pretty damn sure that we used significantly less fuel than on the outward too (although as I've not needed to top back up yet - there's a clue - I don't know for certain). All I can say is, I do think that stuff made a difference.
2) The bl**dy auxilliary belt started to screech, right outside my Dad's house. I looked at everything and decided on trying a new tensioner first. This was fitted with a new belt (with some assistance from the lads at Gerald Hallet @ Halstock - thanks lads), but the screech remained, even if restrained slightly by the new bits, i.e I was actually correct in thinking the tensioner was knacked, because I needed the help to get the new belt in place, whereas before it was a really, let's say, relaxed fit. So I'll be back under the hood drecly to look again at all the pulleys to see what is really causing the noise. First port of call for poking and prodding will be the air-con compressor, because the trip back yesterday was 'humid' to say the least. It won't be as simple as that though, will it!
It's mighty frustrating, because apart from the screech she didn't miss a beat.
