What have I just brought?

Just got my hands on a s reg disco.
And I'm not sure if this is a disco 1 or 2?
Apparently I've been told is is a td3 engine? Now I have owned a disco 1 before a 300tdi and the engines do look different.but my main question is how do you tell a disco1 to a disco 2 any help please

Rear lights are further up, door handles are different (not the Allegro type)

Where is the rear light clusters? And it aint a td3

The rear lights are lower than than a disco2 and also lights are in the bumper?
But this engine does look different to my old 1996 300tdi?

If it's a D2 then it will have a TD5 in it a radically different engine. But I think S was probably the last of the D1s.

I would say so

Disco 2 also longer in the boot (more rear overhang), and the extra seats in the back (if you have them) are completely different and face forwards not sideways.

Def not a TD3 lol - dont think you can get a TD5 as early as S reg (Aug 98 - Feb 99) but could be wrong.

Its possible that someone had put a different engine in from a 300 lump I guess but gawd knows why!

300tdi engine looks agricultural while the Td5 looks modern - all plastic shrouds and electrickery wirage.

Im intrigued sounds like a disco 1 to me but you say it doesn't look like a 300tdi. Piccys of the engine bay please.

Differences I can think of.

Rear lights higher on D2.
Plastic Rear bumper is a slightly different style.
Longer overhang on D2
Swage line more pronouced on D2
Door handles are Marina items on D1
Switch gear slightly different.
Remote fuel cap release on D2 key in the flap for D1.
Body coloured panel between headlights and bumper bigger on D2
3rd row seats forward facing on D2

There are surely plenty more differences but thats what I can think of off the top of my mind

Oh and every S plate car I have seen was a D1. Earliest D2 ive seen was on a T plate
