What determines when a single flare or a double flare should be used. Is it to do with the Male/female fitting pushing down on the flare.

as a rule on landys female union has a concave ie double flare a male fitting convex ie single flare,

im not quite sure what you mean,but by double or single this is what is usually meant , on the left is a double ,right a single as its the first operation in making a flare whilst left takes two operations,the same type of joint is used for clutch lines and earlier oil coolers etcgstuartpost: 4380282 said:

Managed to find a picture, so the far left one, “ the single flare “ I believe should never be used on a brake line

theres an art in knowing what people are asking,youd struggle to make the single flare with a std brake flaring kit

it only makes 2 types of flare single ie bubble or double you couldnt make the other single
Indeed , is me getting the description wrong again , lol
Never used the flaring tool on metal brake lines yet
