Ok guys, puzzle of the day. I have just bought a 1987 RRC 3.5efi auto. All the w/shop books I have show the alternator on the lhs of the engine, (standing at the front facing the engine) My (missing ) alternater was mounted on the rhs. There is no air con, the badge on the rear says vogue. The carpets are dark grey & the seats are light beige with beading round the edge, is this standard or has it been "upgraded"? Please post your thoughts on a postcard......lol.:wtf:
P.S, just bought a rotor arm & dist cap & leads off fleabay & the cap will clip down without the rotor but not with the rotor fitted, sent photo's & the seller says correct distributor for the car, any one else had this??

When you pulled the old rotor arm of you probably pulled the center of the distrubutor up (common fault) you will have to remove it, strip it and put it all back together, I used to keep some small "E" clips when I worked on them all the time. If you look under the rotor arm there is a small plastic retainer ring/clip if it is broken or popped off the center pin you have pulled it off when you removed the old arm.
Does them good to strip, clean and lubricate them any way, also whilst you are at it check the diaphram in the advance and retard capsul, another common issue.

The center spindle does lift up & down, not sure if it will drop any further, will have a look this evening, I didn't remove the rotor. or the alternator & coil, leaving a bunch of wires looking for a home, but that's another job. Many thanks.

Well I got the distributor out & when I pushed on the circlip to remove it the spindle clicked down another 3-4 mm, job sorted, cheers.

I have a '87 Vouge myself but I'll need to check re. the alternator position next time I use the car (it's not a daily driver) but I believe the 'side' depends on the fitment of A/C which mine hasn't, but I do have a retrofitted glass sun-roof which I prefer anyway. The seat colour will vary (mine is silver grey) with the car's spec & can depend on the original order - what colour is your car? As stated distributor (accidental) damage is common with rotor-arm removal, best way is to wrap the RA in cloth & tap it with a hammer to break the plastic prior to removal.
