What do you get on a full tank ??

I'll bet the people who get most MPG also get the best milage out of brake pads...all to do with reading the road as the big lad says.

I get good mpg, and I'm still on my original front brake pads at 121k miles (they needed cleaning and re-installing last year as they get gunged up)...

Long journeys, anticipating the road ahead, minimal braking....

As a matter of interest my TD5 did a 420 mile trip in the summer using 9½ gallons of fuel in then process.

The tank takes nearly 95 litres ....almost 20 gallons .....

I would nearly be prepared to bet that I could drive my TD5 for 800 miles on one tank of diesel. It would be a long slow cruise, but I am sure I could do it.

You should make a video of a trip from London to Edinburgh and back on a tankful in a Landrover 'Gas Guzzler' and send it to Ken Livingstone (and Clarkson for good measure!)

The air con gas in a '91 disco is no longer avaiable. If you want to re-gas it you should realy have a new pump.

Anyway not had it for 4 years so not miss it. The reciver is in me shed all ready from when I did my steering box.

I have a brochure somewhere - I think advertising a commercial Discovery (200 or 300 TDi). It states that it has the ability to cover over 800 miles (831 IIRC) on a full tank of diesel. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I bet that figure was calculated with wing mirrors removed, minimal electrics operating and gaps taped up!!

To be honest, i think we're all kidding ourselves, I just taken the cat pipe off my 300tdi and replaced it with the defender non cat pipe for £20 and to be honest its the best 20quid ive ever spent mpg increased a gud 20% on mpg from under 20 around town to a good 24+ and i'm happy with that.

All this b0ll0x about 30+ mpg is cr@p I challenge anyone to come and drive my 300tdi perfectly maintained as it is, the way they do and get 40+ your all kidding yourselves for g0d sake>

I love my Disco for what it is & it does its job perfectly, unless LR fooked up every single engine they made so bad that each one has totally different mpg figures then we're all wrong.

even with mods we all make, we should all get similarish figures, even with my old 200tdi running 33's tweeked pump straight though pipe 4" lift etc etc still got 25+...........

I drove from Stourbridge to Hartlepool towing a 1500kg caravan and back to stourbridge (minus the caravan) in high winds and rain on a full tank plus £20. A distance of approx 400 miles. Just before xmas. and there was still some fuel in the tank when I got to my final destination.

45 mpg on those figures!!! your having a laff, is that 100% down hill with a tail wind in neutral? TD5's are less economical than a tdi 200 or 300. Am i missing something here???

I drive like a comatosed grandad never a gear change over 2500rpm no faster that 65 and i always cover the truck in vaseline befor a long journey and shave my legs & wear a shower cap coz i believe that helps.

anymore tips or should i just buy shares in BP or buy a Toyata Prius and get an allotment & grow vegetables and fruit and set up a still that produces my own fuel and start raiding superstore waste bins like the FREEGANS do??

sorry for the sarcatic tone but how do we get it all wrong????????????

The 300 is thirstier than 200 and less thirstier than td5 !!

Its not all bollox !!

The reason I put this thread up was to uderstand how my mates car can get over 600 miles out of his exactly the same engine as mine and I get less.

Like I said some tanks are 80 some are 89l

Hence why I said to try and test it on 10 litres of diesel or bio from when the red light comes on !!!!
