I know some might give me the what they get mpg.

Im asking on the basis of a full to the brim of fuel any concoction Bio, veg oil diesel, what do you get out of it when the red light comes on.

My mate has tried it on his 200 tdi and have managed to get 605miles

The reason for my question is that mine will only do 460.

We both work at the same place and we average on the motorway 55 to 65 mph

The difference in our car are

Mine has the big allisport inter cooler
and boosting just above 1 bar

his
Smaller intercooler
stainless exhaust sytem
boosting the same

His has been tried on bio and normal and no changes on the miles and performance

Thanks for your time

411miles on a full tank :( thats all motorway miles at a steady 60 - 65mph. any ideas any one???

We do motorway miles also !

When I spoke to a Master mechanic from land rover
He said if you get over 400 miles thats on a good side
if you have a 300tdi expect less!!

600 is alot from a full tank! 300 _400 is about average for a round town mileage, so please dont be dissapointed with anything less than that!

I had a 300 Tdi - completely standard - and for a while I had my own diesel tank and used to fill it to the brim each time .
From full to the light coming on ranged from 590 to 607 mls and this continued over a period of a few months .
This was mainly driving on country roads - 40 to 55 mph . Was happy with it at the time but now it seems hard to believe but I still have the notebook where I used to write down the mileage when the light came on .

new fuel and air filters could be the key here

How much difference do these make?

P.s. Got it in the right thread now :D

With our Tdi 200 manual and the Tdi300 auto we get AT LEAST 500 mls on a tank - I say at least because normally it's at about this mileage that my wife gets nervous and wants to fill it up again.

This mileage consists of a daily mixture of nipping down the shops and 'a' road driving to the nearest towns cruising at 55-60. IT IS NOT some artificial, mpg-orientated test run.:)

You lucky B11ggers,
Full tank on my V8, on a run, keeping below 70 and all motorway.........240 till the light comes on .
Having said that I only get just under 60 lts in from res light to full.

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!

When I fill up I don't usually get more than about 65 ltrs myself and yet the tank is supposed to be 89 ltrs!!

I'm sure the driving experience of a V8 is wonderfull but that mileage is frightening:(

I've got a '94 300Tdi and have recently started putting Reddex into tank when I fill up. Am currently on second full load and half a tank has so far got me 240 miles, a mixture of about 75% A roads at 50 and 60mph and 25% town driving at 30mph.

Average on my 300tdi manual is about 530 per tank (untill the light comes on). Thats with a daily work run of 25mile (round trip) with about 4 miles of that spent at under 20mph in traffic. Most of my other driving is between 45/60 with the once a week 60mile round trip on the motorway I usually cruise at 65/70.

Got 628 (yes I remember the exact mileage) out of a tank once, that did include a solid run of about 300 miles on the motorway to and from the LRO show last year. I usually get 130/140 miles out of a tank before the needle even moves!!

Oh and there are two different capacity tanks fitted to discos if I remember correctly. Think I have the larger 90ltr tank.

how did your mate get 600 in his

Well the engine itself is standard.

He has a K&N filter
He swear by his samco hosing
Kenlowe fan
Snorkel

To be fair I am just as shocked that he gets that.

To be honest the key is as soon as you start getting over 60mph thats when the truck starts drinking the juice.

When I first got into his truck, he drove it like a car rev it high and changed gear above 3000 rpm.

SO I suggested that he should drive it like a diesel, change before 3000rpm and let the engine do the work.

This was about 6-8 months ago and only no he has only started to reaps the benefit.

Forgot to say after the l reg I think the tanks has got an 89 litre -need to check on the haynes manual.

Also I have onother mate who can only get 240.

Just remembered he uses slick fifty and we change our oil and filter about 4 to 5 k or every 3 months.

We also use the morris diesel cleaner !!

I normally get around 500 on a tank on all round driving including off roading once a month:)

I normally change gear about 2500rpm letting the engine do the work and just staying on turbo.

Youll find that the turbo is always spinning not like the petrol turbo whereby you can set it at certain rpm.

But thats pretty similar to how I drive as long as you are not canning it like a car i think you will get more out of it.
