One thing you will need is an idea of where you are going. Do you know what a greenlane is?

good mates is all ya need..

and an agreement to "never leave anyone behind"..

oh and dont go 1st, there's no one to pull you out, put the most capable at the front..

and dont go at the back unless ya got a cb..

You will be supprised what a Disco will do as standard I know people that have gone green laning with a Standard and had loads of fun........

decide what sort of green laning you want.

Mostly do not go alone as if you do need help your on your own, RAC AA ect will not recover you down a green lane as they say its off roading......

Road tyres can be used, just depends on the lane you want to do, MT's are not required unless its a realy bad one, I have been known to do my Clubs off road courses on roads, while watching others fail with MT's and AT's...

Recovery points do not use the tie down points they are not man enough.

A goos tow rope nopt a 2 tonne one from tescos... they will work but may snap.

if your going any were near water then a snorkel and extended breathers.....

But then again , its all covered in numeroius threads in the forumn with a little searching.

A winch is a joke, ...... learn to drive frist join local Landy club, get to chat to people and have some fun before installing all the penis extentions that you dont realy need.......thats unless your going to do a bit more the just green lanes. The general jist is get to know your Landys ability and your ability first.......

Its been covered quite well here, a CB is a must personally otherwise your guessing whats going on all the time (wrong turns e.t.c.). Recovery points and tyres is all you 'need' really but if you want it you can go all out, lifts, winches, snorkles e.t.c.

Brains, reading ability and a few hours to digest the forum 'green-laning' sections ...

Forget buying ****-loads of crap before you start, 'cos you don't know what you need, you only know what you want or have been told, and they are two entirely different things. Go out a few times with other people, post on here if you have a route, or tag on when someone shouts they're doing a run .. get a feel for what you like on a lane, how you do, how the Disco does and that'll give you an idea of what you need ...

The only real necessity is an ability to get out of the **** you get yourself in .. so take a mate, make sure you have good recovery points and decent recovery ropes/strops etc.

This  I learnt tons more joining my local club than I ever did reading the internet. There is loads of great info and advice on forums etc but you cant beat getting out there and getting hands on practical advice. Its actually good getting stuck as you learn loads more about driving styles, recovery techniques etc etc :)

We have a guy in our club with a practically bog standard Disco with just some ATs on and he does 90% of the lanes we all do :)

so as already said

Make sure you tyres are in decent nick
Get some recovery points (tow bar is a good one for the rear)
Get a couple of good recovery straps (5 ton ones, i go fo around 5m long, plenty on ebay)
Some decent gloves
Good boots

and away you go

CB is a good to have so you can join in with the banter :D

Then you start building it up from there

Extended breathers & snorkel so you can do any Fords
A spade is handy

After that its upto you how mad you want to go :D

yr east yorkshire..

we get over that way sometimes, and north yorks.. yr welcome to tag along sometime..

keep an eye on the North yorks lanes thread in the green laning section..

Get a good map and I'd invest in Memory Map. It's great and you can flag where you've been. Best of luck it's great fun.

wot u want to get is a warn 8274 winch with marlow plasma rope

front and rear air lockers with hd shafts
simex 36" tyres

then when youve been laneing a few times and realised you dont need all that you can sell it to me really cheap
