Inspected my newly acquired Block, Crank, rods & Pistons :D

Look better when it's in & fitted.
The block is a red grade '97 casting so should be better quality than my '02 block. Top hat liners for 'hopefully' a pretty robust V8.:)

That looks great! When will fitting begin?

Taking it to my mech next week to let him have a look. He's not entirely convinced with the use of the 4.0 pistons - it raises the compression from standard 4.6 pistons. Not so much a problem with LPG but could possibly be an issue with standard unleaded.

From what to what?

I bought the lot from a guy who builds race cars - TVR's etc. It was for a project that never got off the ground. He had the work done at CME engine services in Bracknell.

Cool. I just got a top hat liner block from V8developments a few weeks ago. It's back in the car now and working well.

Can I ask a stupid question, I thought that the Thor block was machined differently for different sensors etc. I only came across this as the casting number on my coffee table (a rover v8...) came back as "final revision for bosch engine management"

As you have a Gems block there to go back into your Bosch equipped car is this going to be a problem? Or are the blocks actually the same and no difference?

Only difference i beleive is the knock sensor positions. Mine appears to have the gems already blanked off so should be good to go. My block is a HRC2411.

Nice :)

I might be doing the same with my old block.

Exhaust valves for the feet, little rubber pads for the glass to sit on top of the block. Painted gloss black and then the heads polished of with a polishing wheel. Much better than chrome paint and since its alooominum (as our american cousins would say...) it doesn't tarnish!
