Used to be able to go to almost any motor factors and get pistons or loose rings. Throw a piston on the counter it got measured and loose rings supplied off the shelf. Bit more difficult these days. Nobody stocks anything like that anymore apart from engine specialists and even they only stock popular stuff. Bit of a shame and a sign of the times.

Yup, those were the days, nobody want's to /can rebuild anymore. It's just throw in another unit

We are a dying breed.

only because they dont make it viable or possible now ,there are still skills out there

Diagnostic skills yes then it's over to the fitter to replace carte blanch. If the newly fitted part doesn't cure the fault, fit something else. I know there are still "proper" garages out there but they are a dying breed. Having seen your posts I would put you in the latter group.

very true but whose at fault,ive done all the machine work you can do with engines,bought stock liners and machined them to fit etc,there are still a few out there but ive seen lr amongst others start producing units with no economic rebuild possibilities,ie p38 crown wheel and pinion wasnt available as a spare part, so i blame the industry for the dumbing down rather than the skill base

Yes the industry has a lot to answer for. Not only for the uneconomic rebuild scenario but also the lack of training for the youth of today who will become our future engineers.

iam not getting rid of it, got it in 1986 my first car a 66 mk1 two door 1200 delux or was, its had a bit of breathing on over the years did tarmac rally in it for a bit then retired it before I bent it, wife said sell it the other year I told her I had the car before

unblocked then reconnected my rear sunroof drains lets hope that sorts the wet boot floor and spare wheel well out. that didnt cost me any money except x2 cable ties

just connected an old OBD2 reader didnt get anything at all

Tried test air compressor and blew the maxi fuse overall give it up today

Maybe that's because apart from the V8 engine ECU, nothing on the P38 is OBD compliant apart from the connector

tried out this polish a mate dropped off it comes in 2 little bottles and i mean little gave the corner of the bonnet a go didnt really expect much.

apply the first coat stage 1 it says basically like a panel wipe type stuff but not.

apply the stage 2 polish polymer based stuff and there is a reaction between the 2.
wait 15 mins and buff up to a shine.

now iv polished me cars with all sorts over the years but feeeeeck me it looks like a totally different colour.

now iv had to wash n dry the car and do the whole car looks amazing. rain stopped play wish id taken a before and after pic.

well nothing broke this week had todo something with me put aside rr time lol

Finally got around to fitting the upgraded lights, front and back. Don't worry though I've only upgraded to the 2001 spec clear lenses, no stooped L322 gubbins.
