Many "Experts" claim that the vaccines are useless against Omicron. I know a couple that are fully vaccinated and they have just gone down with Covid for the second time. We are sticking to our policy of isolation.

One of Dads neighbours has tested positive, but he went into hospital for a prostate problem, not sure it was a good swap ...

Finished work early, wife replaced the tape / sealant doing the temporary job o the leak above the passenger visor while I replaced the isopropyl alcohol cleaned MAF sensor. Also connected the Nanocom that arrived today.

Fired up, still a little rough at first, settled down more as warmed but still didn't seem quite right. Fuel trims match both sides, idle seemed steady enough.

Prodded around under the bonnet, got a nice tracking out HT shock off one of the right hand bank plug leads that the garage changed back at the service. Guess I know what I will be removing and testing thoroughly over the weekend then!

Few error messages found and cleared, recirculation door open circuit was he only one that didn't clear. Still don't seem to have manual contrl of fan speed though, I'm wondering if it ight be a damaged ribbon between the panel and the unit, rather than an actual fault? Recirculation certainly kicks it around and I presume that uses the same fans?

Ran him up to 88C, shut down, checked a few bits - oil is still full and clean instead of black already, so all our efforts cleaning with the head gasket work look to have been worth it.

Started him again after a few minutes - bit rough again but still a big improvement on the completely dead he gave just before Christmas when he was hot. Hopefully tracking the ignition issue down will sort everything.

Next wet weather day - sort out the garage to put wife's little Ka away again, and read up more on effective use of Nanocom.

Heater fan speed control failure can the the speed control circuit which is part of the fan motor assembly, but if both fans are uncontrollable it's more likely the HEVAC or connectors.

Depends on your definition of useless. The vaccines won't stop you getting it and with omicron they only reduce spread by maybe 30%. However, they do still seem to prevent death and hospitalisation especially if you had the last shot in the last 3 months. 90% of people in ITU were not vaccinated, that says it all. The antibody response to the spike protein is reduced but the T cell part still seems to work. If it reduces deaths (no sign of an increase in the UK), stops people going into ITU, reduces the number of people going into hospital and the the number of people they infect and the length of time they are ill and off work (including long covid which can keep people off work) then I would say they are working and it is hard to say how these "experts" are defining their success criteria. Incidentally, they also reduce symptomatic infection, i.e. it becomes so mild people don't even realise they have it. Every time I look at the UK figures I am amazed how well it is going. The main issue we have is staff absence because they've tested positive, not staff absence because they're dead or on a ventilator.

I assume you are part of the NHS.
Hospital figures I saw show 42% unvaccinated, 58% vaccinated.
Many admissions logged as Covid were admitted for other reasons and tested positive after admission.
The percentage of population that go into ICU is miniscule.

But 90% (in the UK) are vaccinated. That means that 10% unvacced are making up 42% in hospital.

It is a tricky statistic to deal with (along with deaths after a positive test). Were they naturally asymptomatic or did the vaccine reduce the symptoms? No one can answer that unfortunately

Perhaps it's because they use the PCR test and not the lateral flow when you're admitted.
