A couple of large houses and harnesses to go on the box, that way it should get u there faster than a landrover and will spend less time in the garage / stables,

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I will need a disco as will need it to pull 2 ton. Test drove one sunday ! Will take some getting used to! Very different to my rover 45 lol
Shame i wouldn't get away with an estate of some kind. Been told the freelander would be on the boarder line for pulling 2 ton. Gee I'm confused. Maybe just sell the horses would be easier lol. Thanks again

I have to say a Range Rover as I am totally and utterly biased - they cost a fortune to run and a fortune to fix - but you'll not want anything else after you have had one!!
That being said - a Disco is the best choice - better tow vehicle than the Freelander, Cheaper than a Range Rover, and more comfortable than a Defender.....

Discovery is the best all rounder, everyone knows that.
Land Rovers are utterly fantastic when working but do have trouble more than japanese. We all know that and still prefer them, that's why we're here.
Land Rover make the best tow cars, full stop.
If you were to buy something like a 2000/2001 discovery td5 (auto is nicer/easier to drive) but a fairly basic spec model it will do what you want it to do and more and you'll wonder how you managed without it. It might have a problem or two in the near future but it will be the same problems every other disco td5 has had so we all know how to fix it. And they're nowhere near as expensive as the jap/German offerings, which are not as good at towing.
Freelander is a great option for the person who needs land rover design principles (has to be a good working/off road vehicle) but doesn't want the size, weight or fuel consumption. They are limited to 2 ton towing I think so yes you probably want a discovery if you're right on the limit.
Over loading a vehicle only leads to premature transmission problems which freelanders do suffer from if they have been worked very hard.
Buy a disco td5 auto and be happy
