Hi,

Can anyone help please? Im looking for a car to pull a trailer. I will need a vechile with a towing capacity of 2 ton in total (trailer inc) Ideally im looking for one that i can run as cheap as possible, tax, diesel etc. This will be a family car most of the time but i will want to do the odd trip with the horses. Any advice would be great please.

If you can tell me the full name of the vechile you would recommend that would be great

Thanks

You ask "What car?" on a Land Rover site? LOL...guess most on here are going to recommend a land rover then.. :D
However, I ain't most people... so : Honda Cr-V 2.2 I-CTDI ES 5DR

:pop2:

Oh... a wee introduction..in the introduction section..might have been an idea..... just saying..

Thanks for your advice. Im new to forum sites so unsure of the process! took me 20 mins to find out how to post. Im happy to look at a land rover but there are so many its a minefield. I have no experience of buying a 4x4 either

I think the common attitude is that a disco would be the best all-round tow vehicle, but probably not that cheap to run!

whats your budget ,it makes a lot of difference to choice

my personal thoughts would be get a very good 300 tdi s or t have it inspected and pay 2k max 2500 then when it gose wron it wont cost an arm and a leg to fix like the td5 will

I would buy a discovery 2 Td5 manual with rear coil suspension and without Ace and without leaky roofs thereby minimizing potential repair costs.
Actually I wouldn't,but thats just me liking all the toys I can get hold of!!.

All up weight including trailer, and to use as a family car?

Try looking at one of those French things like a Picasso ... Thought he was Spanish!! However, as long as it has a towbar, you should be OK

Freelander is the best family all rounder.

They dont absorb huge amounts of money like the Discovery and are easier/lighter/smaller which is better for female drivers.

They are a lightweight land rover though so dont do the job as well. Definitely the best in class, although the Japanese big 4x4s are essentially better than Land Rovers, you just wouldn't want one because Land Rover is king of the 4x4 scene.

That's why they break down so much!

My vote, Freelander Td4 5 door, something like a 2003 plate...

Well, kinda yeah. They are built more like a modern vehicle and it's true that the old style clunky land rovers need more regular maintenance. They also are the best in class at the job they do vs useabilty and also cost. Not cheap to own though by any means.

Freelanders do go wrong regularly of course but generally speaking they require less regular maintenance!

lol :D

only speaking from experience fett, we sell lots of freelanders because although everyone complains they are very popular and good at their job, and we dont have that much hassle with them.

D1 is a bit old for us but we run two of them here and they have their fair share of trouble, not to mention the rot, but apart from the early D3 and RRS models from 04 and 05 i'd say that D2 of all years give us the most hassle, always something wrong with them be it minor or major! :(
