What can I use to fill my 110 Station Wagon 2nd row footwell?

Hi all,

I've got a 200tdi 110 csw and would like to use it occasionally as a camper. I've seen some great camper conversions but they are usually permanent and I would like my 110 to be pretty much standard with only a small amount of preparation in order to make it sleep-able. My very simple and quick idea for kipping in the 110 is this:
-Keep one rear bench seat, and remove the other leaving the inner wheel arch free for cooker, gas bottle etc.
-Remove two of the 2nd row seats (4 bolts!)
-Fill the empty footwell with something so it's level with the load area
-When I want to sleep roll a camping matress out down the centre of the landy's floor, and use as a bed.

Then when I get home all I have to do is unpack and put the two second row seats back in.

The trouble is in finding something the perfect height to fill the gap with. I don't particularly want to start making stuff out of wood or metal as I've done this before and is time consuming, and usually ends up being underused.

Ideas so far:
-Finding a storage box the perfect height and size to fit the footwell, and then turning it upside down
-Stacking books or planks of wood there until they match the height of the load area
-Folding/ rolling up a load of blankets and placing something hard like wood or hardboard on top.

Anybody got anything better?

How many seats do you need (maximum)

Maximum is one I guess. Two if the mrs comes with me.

I want to keep a rear bench 'cos it's somewhere half decent to sit when in the back, and I figured I may aswel keep one of the second row seats in place, 'cos it's less to take out and then replace, but also because removal of two seats will expose enough width between the wheel arches to sleep.

Bloody hell thats a lot of phaffing...I have kept both bench seats....fold up the middle row seats...Two bits of mdf ( which usually stored under the rubber mat in the back ) across the bench seats and they rest on the middle row...then a double airbed fits in there with room to spare...simple and incredibly quick to do ...takes me 5 mins to set up the bed and ive kept the bed set up whilst laning too and everything stays in place.... it even stood up to the angle of the bomb hole on strata.

Ya see, al it needed is a woman's touch ;-p

I can't better that I'm afraid, other than suggest get rid and get a 110 van instead. Sheet of wood across the arches, storage below with a double mattress to sleep on.

On mine the middle seat of the second row is needed to support the side seats. If I need to fold the middle seat forwards it has to be done last. So removing 2 of the second row seats would not work unless they were the outer 2.

Your seats may be different though. It would be worth checking before making any plans for the second row seats.
