As some of you may be aware from some of my recent posts I am looking for a 110 station wagon as I have a baby on the way. I am tracking ebay/facebook sales to get a feel for what is available and what prices are. I am looking for a tdi (original or conversion) and am happy with a project-ish type vehicle as I would in time want to get it to be the same as my current 110 hardtop both in terms of rebuild/galvnaised as well as the bolt-on modifications. So far all I have come up with is there seems to be no consistency in what price is asked for, no consistency in the price actually achieved and no consistency in what my feelings on what something is worth vs what is asked/actually sold for!

LINK1: this looks to be absolutely perfect is what I am looking for but at 6k is at least half the price I would have been expecting. What am I missing?

LINK2: this ticks some of my boxes although I would want to swap out the engine back to land rover, do not like the raptor paint job and it is still on original chassis. When I asked for a buy it now the seller is looking for 12k for it. Again am I missing something or is that a sensible price?

So the criteria is for an honest vehicle with minimal modification.
Problems for the last is returning back to original you pay more twice and considering having a baby Landy something has to give.
The first one you have to ask what needs to be done in upkeep and new baby Landy on the way.
Both relied on the time maintaining while little new born. Here's a picture of encouragement.

Link 1 was obviously so perfect its gone ;) .
Link 2 I think you will find may get to a bit of a bidding war near the end.

If you are prepared for the work why not look at that TD5 110 thats been talked about in another fred bet the price could be beat down too.

Well that explains what I was missing with it! I was trying to work out how it was a scam as if it is too good it usually is! (screen shots below as i still had it open)

The TD5 on the other thread needs a new chassis and I think that is a step too far with a baby on the way unfortunately. So I am looking for something ideally that already has a new chassis or has already had the chassis work done. But the rest of a project I am happy with, wiring/mechanical etc is not as large an undertaking as chassis replacment.

What about a 3.5 V8 needing a second row of seats. This one has had some good money spent on it over the years and looks very smart for a baby carrier https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1633185

I have seen a couple of v8s on facebook for all their benefits, I like diesel and like the tdi I have and am used to. Another thing is I am not planning on getting rid of my current 110 so if they are the same vintage, engine, etc then the parts are universal and interchangable.

I have seen that ad (think it is also on facebook) and this was another reason for asking about prices. It looks form the pictures like a fairly tired vehicle, all be it unmolested and relatively tidy considering the age. But because of this it then also seems on the face of it quite expensive for what it appears to be.

I think you're out of touch with 110 Tdi CSW prices. 200/300 Tdi's, because of their simplicity and extra power/torque over n/a engines are quite sought after and I can only see these continuing to rise.

Of course, TD5's are common as muck 😉

That may be the case and one of the reasons for this thread. There is also maybe far more of a “project” discount than I am accounting for. I have seen a few unfinished projects on galv chassis that are very low prices. I just missed out on one that went for less than I thought it was worth and was willing to pay at 2k (it was in Scotland). But when project vehicle already with a galv chassis are going for 6ish or less (from what I have seen) why is a tired vehicle that hasn’t had a chassis worth twice that?

If that is actually the case I will almost exclusively be looking for an unfinished project!

If you get a project just make sure you have the essentials.
Most of the projects they want to get rid off and as they are in pieces so the cost is low.
Most just want the cost of the chassis back.

Just check the vin plate etc as there are a few with no docs or classed as other things

Battery install is super neat!

Also On that are the really worth more than a td5 station wagon? According to @lightning on the wrecked td5 thread a reasonable td5 station wagon is 10k. I would have put a tdi at about the same?

I'm seeing a step change in good 200/300Tdi prices over TD5's, possibly where TD5's are so readily available...the Tdi's less so. Plus so many classic/period car prices find their market model sought after pricing, ala MG, 911's, Jensen's et al. One has to pay significantly more for MGBV8's, 3.0/3.2ltr SC and 964 911's than other models and I see not difference for Land Rovers. This may seem a little crazy but it's how the market works. One could say the same within the Series world...S1 and S2/S2A's over S3's, yet arguably S3's are the more practical model.

In other news, could you be tempted with an early 1970's Safari 109 Station Wagon with original 6 cylinder engine? It's a fantastic old bus, solid and nicely used throughout in original Limestone...which is the best colour for this type of 109. The Safari is in need of a refresh but is eminently usable as a day-to-day run-around [if I had more space/wanting another Landy I'd be buying this as original 6 cylinder Safari's are becoming super rare]. Last weekend buddy owner took the 109 to Avebury stone circle en famille...the three children, Mum, Dad and all their bicycles in the back, they had a great day out. Can happily put you in contact with my good buddy who's having a car collection clear out. Price ~£11k

Prices for genuinely good 300tdi's are definitely rising, probably because there are so few good ones around and many see them as the best of all the Defenders.
