What Are These Called?

And what purpose do they serve? Seems a funny place to have handles.

I reckon they were stock - every td ninety ive seen of the 83-1990 vintage has them

had them on series one, 1956 vintage back in the day.

I quite like em....

There's some on eBay for under a tenner, I like the idea of retrofitting them.

I've seen them on plenty of farm 200 and 300tdis, mine used to have them until I started the rebuild

Ah, handles for farmers to help then get their trailers/farm machinery manhandled onto the tow hitch. Seems quite logical now. Thanks for the replies.

They're manual handbrake assistors for when you're unloading.

tie ya mutt to em, stick it in Low range and off ya go..

i climb/step on them when i want to get into the back with the tailgate up. i thing they would stop you smashing a light if you reversed into a vertical surface also.

Did it break or the bit of chassis it was bolted to? 😜

WW2 Jeep's had them fitted near the seats so you could grab on when going over the rough and not get ejected.Series ones are steel, later ones ali.
