Had my cars air filter out at the weekend and it's filthy! Ugh! So, time for a replacement, but whats best to go for?

- Standard OEM or OEM-spec replacement?
- Aftermarket filter element - K&N? Pipercross? Someone else?
- Induction kit - again, K&N, Pipercross, etc?

I guess the latter would give a nice induction roar, but I'm concerned about it sucking in water should I venture offroad or go through some particularly deep puddles (and we get plenty round here!).

Sticking with the original filter housing, is a K&N (or similar) replacement filter element worth the extra over the OEM-spec things?

Cheers!

Panel filter type either K&N or piper cross. Dont get a cone filter as it will only suck in hot engine air and defeat the object....Only lightly oil as peeps spray **** loads on and destroy the maf.

OK, replacement filter element it is! Thought heat soak might be an issue from that big old V8!!

Any preference to K&N or Pipercross? Someone else perhaps?

Now you mentioned it, I imagine the the MAF could do with a clean too - what should I use to clean it? WD40? Carb cleaner (which I don't have)?!

Not much in it really. You will only gain a couple of bhp max but the throttle pick up will improve loads. what kind of sound do you want??

K&N....You can use brake cleaner aswell for the maf.

Also works well with a centre and rear box delete...:D;)

Well I do intend on removing the centre box, and the backbox has a small hole in it so that will be ditched soon too - just can't decide what to replace the backbox with!!

I would go straight pipe.....thats wat I intend doing with mine. Filter, straight pipe train horn,bull-bar.:)

I took the little wire mesh grill of and wiped mine out with a rag damped with acetone.

brake or carb cleaner work good too.

carfull you dont get too much brake cleaner on it or you will melt the plastic parts :p

RE: cleaning the MAF, can I use WD40? I don't have any carb cleaner and, given I no longer own a vehcile with carbs, it seems silly to buy a whole can! Wil WD40 do the trick? Ir a bit of petrol on a rag?
