Cant believe it - I have done it again!! 30 litre of unleaded in the diesel AGAIN!!!!! LR Assist recovered me home and its not sitting on the drive - I dont really want to shell out silly money again and was thinking about having a go at draining it myself, only trouble is

when i try and syphon the unleaded out, I am only getting about a mug full before it stops - I am fairly sure i have the tube right down to the bottom of the tank (well over a metre in there) - is there some kind of anti-syphon device further down the line? MY gob now tastes of unleaded and I am thinking of shaving off my goatee to get rid of the smell

is it really OK to just fill up with diesel once I have started it?? - I keep getting conflicting opinions - some say yes, some say no - I haven't started it so surely whatever residual petrol is in there would just 'water down' the diesel??

i wud be inclined to drain it from under the tank - or at least as close to the bottom as you can get. leave the filler cap off to allow ingress of air. Why dont ya call one of ya petrol running mates and say "free tank of petrol - all yu need to do is collect it".
yu cud use the fuel pump to pump it out too - if ya batteries good.

maybe the tin miner could make up a BIG sticker fer you......

"no! stupid its a doosul!"

stick it next to yer filler for to have a timely reminder

pumping it straight off via fuel pump into me mates MK3 Cortina!! slow process as the fuel shut off relay keeps cutting out - will let ya know what happens - fingers crossed!

Yeah either that or wear a DIESEL T-shirt and base ball hat.

You do realise Outlander that you will never live it down

I new a bloke who used his wet and dry vaccuum cleaner to try to suck petrol out of his tank.............He got a bit of a shock when the cleaner exploded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks grunt!! that explains a lot. i couldn't fer the life of me figure out why my noo washing machine had a warning on it not to put petrol in it.
i really didn't think anyone was daft enough to do so and more to the point i couldn't figure out why anyone would want to. maybe the writer of the booklet knew this bloke you knew.

He was a plumbing tutor so maybe that explains something, the same bloke stripped his electric window mechanism to find out why it wasn't working only to find out it was the fuse.

yay!!!!

It worked - pretty easy really, pulled off the pipe just before the injectors (where it isnt under high pressure) and use the fuel pump to push it out, had to keep switching off and starting again

Flattened the battery but I got Land Rover Assist to come and jump start

Me mate had the petrol so I aint had to pay to dispose

Happy bunny now!

glad it worked :D

why didnt yu use ya mates car to keep ya battery topped up or tojump start yu? gotta be worth a set of jump leads?

tried it - the Cortina altenator and battery didnt have the balls to turn the Freelander over - hardly surprising really - 1972 Cortina with a 44Ah battery and a fairly low compression Pinto compared to what a Freebifter battery has to push out to turn the lump and run ancillaries
