Disco 2 Well, commuting was fun

Going home of course.

Yesterday

Stuck behind Mr Slow, until I went to pass and he put his foot down.

F**king hell, the mid range torque was mad 50 to 70 in not much time and straight past.

Got to roundabout and piled in to turn right, near adhesion limit.

Why is my live axle off roader going so well and handling so well?

I had a smile after that.

Cold dense air?

May well be due to ACT's.

My Escort RS has a chargecooler fitted which keeps air temps down all the time, but on a chilly spring morning when I take her out she pulls like a train.

And the visit from Mike, first time I had a really good opportunity to overtake cleanly

Surprising how well the TD5 corners isn't it. Considering it weighs in at a little over two and a half tones.

Constant 4 wheel drive and the funky anti roll thingy-ma-jig (that I can't remember the name of).

I found (quite unintentionally mind) that on road tyres it will drift the roundabouts with surprising confidence.

I find it can't decide if it wants to oversteer or understeer

Maybe you should consider looking in on the "You knows you're getting old when" thread, the funky anti roll thingy-ma-jig that you can't remember the name of is called the Active Cornering Enhancement or ACE.
Not all Disco 2s were fitted with it, some like mine have static anti-roll bars and I've never had a problem with it rolling uncomfortably. Nor have I ever had the Disco drifting around a roundabout and I do use road tyres on it, Pirellis during the warmer months and Coopers cold climate tyres during the winter months.

Drift or an uncontrollable slide at a roundabout? In my 29 years with a RR and now a disco I've never drifted on a roundabout, slid once or twice in snow maybe but at 10mph it's controllable, otherwise it could be on rails.

To drift successfully you will need rear wheel drive and the speed and skill to get the rear to move out.
I have an old car in the garage that will drift, I was shown how by a professional at Brands Hatch years ago Brands is not that far from me.
The a modern car I own has lots electronic systems to keep me straight, so no oversteer to put the back into a hedge or understeer which is not fun with the car going straight on at a bend with the steering on full lock.

There is a roundabout on my commute and I can corner at the level limit of the car no problem, kills the left front tyre though!
