hello every one :)

my disco has a few little bits of rust on top of the back wheel arches. Visible when opening back door. I have cleaned it all up years back and it now is back.
had been advise last year and this year about the known whole around the seat belt area,easy to fix for the MOT (both sides sorted now)

now the question: I guess from driving and the force of the wheel spinning the water gets pushed between the panels with in wheel arch from below. would you recommend using waxotl in the wheel arches to try and stop this.
otherwise I guess I will need a large welding job at some stage.

I know and have seen similar discos with the same issue, how do you guys sort it out. had been advise by my welder he could make custom section around that area to ensure it would not come back. only point being if the custom job hides it i can not see underneath whats happening.

why bother repairing the arch ? drill out the spot welds clean it up and fit a brand new arch panel, job done propper for 35 quid + the welding and paint :)

a lot quicker than plating.

If waxoly does wash off just put some more on. It's cheep stuff. It works well if put on properly. Halfords do waxoly for under week arches, comes in a aerosol. I just waxoly everything !!!!!!!

what he said and then waxoyl...there is no point in sprayinf waxoyl on to rust
 
thanks Vivnap for piccies and advice. Waxoyl was only the lazy way to delay until I get the time to do a propper job. I agree if I do it once its done and no more worries for a long while. Where did you get the arch panels from ?

paddock had not got them in stock so i went to derbyshire land rover spares in wirksworth. they were about 35 quid or there abouts and if you drill out the spot welds they are a whole lot quicker and easier to do than a patch job.
dont drill right through the outer arch and inner arch, drill just through the outer arch (the one your replacing) and use a thin chisel to split the drilled spotweld, clean up the inner arch drill holes in the new outer arch and weld in place. from start to finnish it should take a few hours then its down to paint.
get a tin of seam sealer and seal the joint between the new arch and origonal inner arch (underneath) spray with schultz and paint the new arch. job done perfect result and a real easy diy repair :)
