Been losing a bit of water from the tank could I be losing it because of engine boiling it off as I was not putting coolant in with it only water i know it could also be head just wondering if anyone heard of it

It could be because of lottsa stuff... leaks or drips from hoses or connections, a pinhole in the rad, leaking at thermostat housing, duff pressure cap or....... the HG.

Water alone isn't ideal, but it should not disappear.

^^^ +1 ... check the cap first to be well tightened. ... there must be 1.4 bar in the system to increase the boiling point to 120*C

Have the cooling system pressure tested whilst the engine is cold - this is a very good way to fins small leaks that normally disappear as steam when the engine is hot and running - often leaving no evidence.

I was loosing a small amount turned out to be water pump.i decided to replace rad at same time and all hose clips.as was refilling with oat and didnt want to loose any by having to drain again cos of dodgy hose clips.also have a look under fuel cooler as they tend to weep.
