Hello,

I currently have the interior stripped out of my 1996 Disco. The footwells have no rust holes even though the soundproofing was soaking when I removed it. The rain was heavy yesterday and I now have water in both footwells.

My question is, how does it get in and how do I prevent it?

Many Thanks

Door seals. inside doors and out the bottom past the door liner, thrown up off road and thru gaps in seams and drian plugs. thru scuttle panels where inner and outer wing meet doors. thru leaky screen seal. leaky sunroof water tracks across roof and down A post. thru front bulkhead wiring ports.. The list is endless..

as above...number of places, feel your head lining...wet? window seal, do you have sunroofs..the seal.basicaly anything put in place to stop leaks has finally worn out :)

Thanks for the replies. I do have a sunroof but the head lining is dry and around the inner of the sunroof is too. I think I'll take the wings off and seal any obvious places etc. It also seems cheap enough to replace the door seals etc so I get to spend another Sunday alone with my Disco :)

my headlining was dry but occasionally a small puddle would appear in the passenger footwell, I poured a kettles worth of water on the sunroof and watched as my headlining became dripping wet and a small lake appeared in the footwell from the A pillar, straight past all my lovely relays. I havent got round to sorting it but i reckon its either the inner seal failing or the gutters snapped off so it'll be a headling 1/2 down jobbie. Maybe Its worth a look?, or do the hosepipe test and then look for leaks.

Thank you mrnice. It seems with Land Rovers the phrase "there's always something to look in to" has never been more relevant. No matter how much hassle or despair it causes there is something strangely addictive to "sorting" problems with theses vehicles. Any other make of car the same age giving me this much s**t would have been in the big scrapheap in the sky after I had thrashed it with a branch ala Basil Fawlty :)

Mine did that on a 97 plate, laid upside down in the footwell while my mate hosed the car down......nothing:confused:.....rained,then a puddle in the footwell:eek:. So....process of elimination....sealed the screen first...bingo,sorted, how lucky was that:)...:fencing:

First time lucky is rare on a Land Rover :D

yeah it can be very hit and miss, it can depend on factors such as how heavy it rains, what way the disco is facing (is it parked on a slope), which way the wind is blowing etc! start with the usual suspects/easyfixes and you will eventually get there in the end (theres only so many to try)
