Hi all my name is Martin.
Apologies if I am doing things wrong here .But I am very new to forums and such.i have been having the notorious water in footwells in my disco 2 .
I,ve been following lots of threads to try and sove the issue .
So last weekend I decided I investigate. The condensation is absolutely ridiculous. I took the easy way and cut the carpet under the seat trim to remove . Absolutely soaking been hanging up to drain for 3 x days now .anyhow after drying footwells I looked for witness marks from water .sunroof , windscreen , doorseals ac drains etc , everything I found on landy zone threads .
And eventually found what I think is the main cause.i wanted to join this forum to share my findings as this has been driving me mad.
So where the wiring harness passes through the bulkhead (firewall) on each side . There is a large grommet which acts as a shroud around the harness as it passes through the hole.
Well on mine the bottom of these hole were completely rotten .also the seam where the metal sheets are welded together is a water trap and a point where rust will start.i cleaned the area as best as I could with wire brush in a drill and used a peice of sheet metal bent to the contours from the back of the inner wheel arch and up onto the bulkhead . A hole cut with a 40mm hole saw , pushed the grommet inside lots of silicone and a few self tappers .
The passenger side is a little easier . As the drivers side is obstructed by brake servo.
I may still have a small leak from elsewhere windscreen maybe, but this was the main issue .so for anyone out there with flooded footwells on a d2 I urge you to look here .so it's been raining all night so I,ll check when I get home from work, as carpets are still in the shed drying. I was at the point of selling as this issue was getting me down not having much spare time etc
Apologies for such a long thread but I want to share my findings and help a little .
