Hi, another new issue.........
P38 4.6.
In this hot weather, and a couple of pretty long journeys, I have noticed a loss of coolant. No obvious leaks other than the overspill pipe on the expansion tank.
I did a 300+ mile round trip and on the ride back I saw the temp going up, but it never went over half way. Usually it rarely goes 1 bar above the blue zone into the white. My car apparently has an uprated cooling system and radiator as it was built to South African spec for use over there, and then shipped back a few years later.
What made me notice was a pop to the shops, 10 miles, when I got back temp was again half way through the white zone, and the front of the car was incredibly hot to touch around the bonnet catch and the metal around the top of the headlamps. Once it cooled I put about a litre in.
Again, yesterday another 200 mile trip, exactly the same. I took water with me on the journey in case, but did not need it. However, I did get about 80 miles into the journey and checked it over to find when idling the coolant was spilling out of the expansion tank via the over flow. Not boiling, not steaming.
I checked it again this morning at home, it needed about another litre.
Is this an air lock?
Bearing in mind I can clearly see a steady trickle of coolant coming back into the expansion tank from the pipe that goes to the top of the radiator.
I love it, but bloody thing.........
Cheers again in advance.
