I tried this with a fridge magnet, but I think it was too weak, the magnetisation was pathetic. Think I'll make a trip to Screwfix

, you don't have any other grease to wet the oring outer surface which will allow them to slide in while fitted on the pipe end?
Replace the screw with a socket head screw. There are recesses into which the O rings go.
Silicone grease not Coppaslip. The pipes do not go in far and I do not remember any resistance.

Are you sure the o-rings are correct for the application?
Just be careful the thread isn't stripped out of the aluminum bracket. A dab of thread locker or Loctite on the bolt and it should be OK
