hi All
I've just purchased an ex MOD SWB and am now trying to tax and register it. I'm sure this topic has been covered hundreds of times so I'm hoping there are a few experienced hands out there that can help.
The SWB passed its MOT today which was the first sigh of relief !! Now the minefield of the registration ....
I was given a DISCO form when I purchased the SWB but the V55 forms requires more detailed information which they say can be found on a "Certificate of Conformity".
Q1) Is each certificate for an individual vehicle using the VIN as a reference or for each type of vehicle ?
Q2) where do I get a C of C ? I have found online companies that will supply the document if you pay them large sums of money (are they trust worthy?) but is there a central register that can provide the information for less / free ?
many thanks in advance :)

I have recently gone through the exactly the same having bought a Defender 110 - 2A Snatch Armoured.
You have the MOT which is the first job then you fill in the DVLA form V55/5 as best as you can from the info on the MOD 654
send these to the DVLA with the original 654 form they wont accept a photo copy. You will need to send 2 cheques made out to the DVLA one for £270.00
for a years road tax and this is fixed as it is an ex MOD plus another for £55.00 for the registration.
I also sent a copy of the ID plate showing everything. Serial No.s, previous Army reg. No. etc.
Post to: DVLA, First Registration, Swansea, SA99 1BE. This will taker some time due to the virus problem. Good luck.
Though you cannot get through on the phone for help they are helpfull even though long winded & slow.

this is what o had to do aswell, make photocopies of any originals you send as it is unlikely you will get them back!

Hi Guys

many thanks for all the welcomes and suggestions on the registration process.
I expect the wheels of progress within the civil service are turning even slower than normal at the moment so I don't expect to be road worthy this side of Christmas !!

Hi Tonybell,
the DISC-O (date in service - official) form has replaced the MOD 654 but it contains only contains the following details on the vehicle:
- sentencing reference number
- in service registration number
- manufacturer
- model
- description
- chassis number
- engine number
- EAC / MAC
- date of manufacture
and date in service.
The form is not even dated !!

I've just come across this website for specs on LR's and a host of other vehicles which might be useful for other users:

Welcome to the forum

HI,
So you do not need MOT to register for V5?

Many thanks
