Terra, my view is to put breathers in and replace old ones where poss. Be careful not to f*%$ the threads in axles etc. I used existing breathers where they looked ok and connected under the bonnet (with adaptor shown previously) and the ran beside me snorrrrkle. If existing breathers looked cool, just connect to adaptor and run up the previously mentioned snorkkkkle.....
 
it should have short ones on the axles and gearbox/transfer box(all the ones i have worked on have had them) you can extend them if you want or replace them with nylon tubing i am going to make a 'manifold' to collect all me breathers to then have a single tube going up my snorkel rather than half a dozen!
 
Terra, I am near Henley in Arden and will maybe at Stratford for bit of off roading at weekend so you can catch up at some stage.

On the 90 I extended and connected both axle breathers to a single 6mm pushfit Tee piece. and then took a pipe from that to the bulkhead. where it connected it to a 2nd tee piece. into this I put the transfer box breather and a 2" link piece. then stuck a 3rd tee piece onto the link piece and fitted the gear box breather to it and the final length to take em all up to the top of the snorkel.

Only parts you need are length of 6mm pushfit tubing and 3 6mm equal tees.
 
I'll have to get underneath on sat'd and have a look to see whats what, or maybe pay Keith to come and meet up one weekend, wink wink nod nod!!!

out of interest, i've fitted a snorkel and wading kit, what about the electrics on a defender when taken through fords etc?
 
OK cheers, when i get the kit i'll pm you to let you know then arrange to meet up one sat'd just to give me some pointers as to where everything goes. It's much appreciated K. Still in two minds about sun'd. If not i'll defo be there in the summer when i'll be able to get around a bit easier. Still i might change my mind and think what the heck and turn up sun'd. I would'nt mind arranging a greenlaning event on the Midlandy's forum but am to much of a novice at the mo and hav'nt a clue where to go.
 
Well ive been through a ford which was nearly top of bonnet deep (bow wave was over bonnet) and the only prob i had was the power steering not working for a couple of min's till it dried out.

P.S. i drive a 200tdi submarine LOL

When you say 'take the breather up to the top of the snorkle' do you mean externaly?

Iv got all my four breathers up to the bulkhaed at the mo! Didnt know about the 'manifold' idea but now i know il be doing the same........ i didnt want all four running up the side of the snorkle as (I guess) would look untidy.
 
well...... if you have water ingress into the gearbox/T-Box and the diffs, you are now running on a water/oil emulsion. Do you think that will do them any good?

yeah i would run one up the outside of the snorkel between it and the screen
