Wading plugs dilemma

I have an axle breather system fitted to my Disco and a Snorkel, and I also have a couple of wading plugs. Now with the weather getting worse and a definite chance of a few of the roads around here that I use daily getting flooded, is it worth leaving the plugs in until spring? or take them out once a week. The last thing I want to do is have to get under the vehicle on a wet road to fit them during the school run. What would you recommend?

This road is often flooded. so yes. :D

I'm sure it has but if nobody posted new threads, but instead just searched the archives than the forum would die a death. ;) Further more old threads are just that, new members bring new ideas and thoughts to the table. However thanks for pointing it out I shall do a search.
 
That's not deep, its not even up to the headlamps!!!

Put the plugs in but drain anything out every couple of weeks or so.

It was when I drove in, Its tidal and has a fast tide turn the pic was taken about 20 mins later, it was originally up to the door windows.... :D

Thanks for the answer. Searching returns so many references to wading plugs that it would take all day to find the correct info, hence asking. ;)

OOOOOO... Tidal, I had a S3 a few years ago... and done the same thing a few times geting over to RST on Mersea Island, also wind surfing, and a Girl Frend I used to see. being young at the time and all that thought sod it, its a Landrover.............they like all other motors dont like salt water, I found out to my cost........

But back to the Subject, fit all the breather tubes just a couple of quid more, on the timming belt cover and the Gear/Transfer box, and fit the wading plus and foget......

I was doing the usual school run but due to a crash and huge tail backs I decided to use an alternative route. Unfortunately the tide was in and the road was flooded. This is a regular occurrence, and I've driven through it many times, unfortunately that morning I misjudged where the road was and where the grass verge was :doh: and as a result managed to loose momentum and with a dip in the verge sending a bow wave up to the windscreen, she cut out! So me the wife our 2 kids and our friends son had to wade out. 20 mins after taking this pic, the water had receded and the road was completely clear. Quick jump start and she drove home, I' needed to dry out the carpets but they needed a clean anyway! It was a great adventure and the kids loved it...

Totally irresponsible parenting, but even the wife laughed all the way through it..:D

My wife and daughter just got out and waded to the bank, the 2 boys climbed onto the roof and made me carry them..:mad:

hi mates..just wondering how many wading plugs are there in a 1996 300tdi auto??..i got one at the bell housing which is not plugged since i bought abt 4 month ago.?? is that alright??...theres never been any flooding around my area...n never will be i guess.....but it rains a lot though but no flooding ...??...so should i plug it or just leave it ??..many thanks..:)

two wading plug holes - one as you have found and one at the bottom of the timing cover.

2 schools of thought on this one....
Land rover say fit them and remove every service to check for contamination. Others only fit when needed.
Personally I fit and remove to check, on the assumption that I am bound to forget to fit them when I need them :D.
 
just dont forget to get them out now and again...

if you go through deep water, i would advise removing them overnight as soon as possible..
