wading on a shoestring

hi everyone i want to turn my standard petrol series 3 into a real water lover, but i want to do this as cheap as possoble, ie home made snorkle and extended breathers ect if anyone could help i would be most chuffed

stick a doozil injun is it.

The poncho works a treat, ask grippa.

Also swap the vissy fan for a switchable electric jobbie

You must be a right hard arse to want to go wading up to your neck this time of year ... respect man. The biggest problem is the electrics getting wet. A petrol engine will easily cut out in bumper depth water. What happens is the crank shaft pulley spins water all over the place, then the engine driven fan blows the water all over the high tension electrics and it stops. A switchable electric fan stops stops part of the problem and I've heard of people making guards to deflect the rest of the water which is flung off the pulleys. Nice new HT leads with tight fitting caps will probably help too.

Move the coil in to the cab
put fuse box in a tupperware box with lots of bathroom sealent
Get a good rubber glove and cut the tips of the fingers off and then pop it on the dissy.
get a kenlow fan.

ps i live in france and over here it is illegal to put a doosel into a petrol car or vis versa

some people have better things to do than to repeat info that has already been posted on this forum numerous times - info which could very quickly and easily be found by searching

Thats a stupid answer any way.If i wanted a diesel i would have bought one-or at least aved a bit more mney for one! Get some trade size Wd 40 and empty it on everything electric before and after wading.I know others on here dont recomend it but it seems to work for me so far......

You may love yer petrol but unless you do a first rate job of waterproofing you'll soon be hacked off with being recovered by doosels and you'll find Sean is correct with his mission impossible quip.
It's a while since I joined this forum but as I recall there was no mention of it being a good idea to do a search for any issues. I think it was just assumed that you would have the common sense to go to the FAQ section.

I agree with what you lot are saying in relation to searching instead of posting. And perhaps particuarly with this question as I am sure it is one that is asked frequently.

But think of it this way...nearly every question has been asked before at some point, or you can find on google, etc etc. If everyone searched for old posts instead of asking in a new thread, the forum would be very dead. Also, the way in which posts gets answered is different, not only because the people viewing it are different, but as time goes on different ideas crop up. Without new threads being posted, the opportunity for different opinions wouldn't be aired.
