Brakes on my series 3 safari are all re built, re adjusted, bled of all air, all working perfectly. But adjustment was loose on the servo rod(the bit that pushes the (new!) master cylinder) and now no matter what I do I can not get brakes to work as they should. Either pump twice to get any pressure or extend rod a miniscule amount and get hard pedal and brakes wont release properly(dragging) split the servo apart checked it out it is O.K. what am i missing. Its driving me f***ing nuts. HEEEEEELP!! surely the adjustment cant be that fussy on an old land rover?

dont think you needed to touch the servo ,rod adjustment is out too far it will allow servo to pull brakes on ,other way you could get too much pedal travel ,i would think your excess pedal might be in drums /shoe or air ,try clamping flexis and see if you can isolate the most travel

Cheers mate I'll try again tomorrow(have to work outside and its raining:(). At least I can make some sense out of it now.

1.5mm at the operating rod, 3mm min at the end of the pedal. If it's a non servo make sure the brake light switch above the pedal has enough free play and isn't binding up the master cylinder.

Thanks for the help everyone, got some more air out of system when I had set servo to clearance. A good scrub in of the brakes and re set of the shoe clearance and it'll be better than new:D
