VW Golf GTI MK5 Vs Disco TD5 fuel economy

I am trading in my VW Golf GTI Mk5 this week for an 04 plate Disco TD5.

I was wondering what the TD5 is like on fuel compared to my Golf?

At the moment I am getting at best 30mpg around town and between 35-40mpg at 60mph on the motorway.

How does the TD5 compare on fuel???

Worse.

Think 30mpg best, 20-25 around town.

Or somewhere around there. Have a look at various threads here on economy.

Narr bored of Golfs now, had 3! I used to have a very old Defender 90 which had to be scrapped and I REALLY miss it!

I know the Disco aint going to be great on fuel due to the vehicles weight I was just interested to find out what other people were managing to get out of it!

My old Defender was the 2.5 NA engine and it was PANTS on fuel but I really did not care as it was awsome green laneing and was a good laugh getting it stuck up to the mirrors in mud!

LOL yeh that would be great BUT the misses wants a little more comfort as I nearly knocked her out a few times off road on the internal body work. So I had to compromise

Still thought the Disco is a great car for off road!

I have an 03 TD5ES and i am getting 21mpg around town and 29mpg on a run steady 70mph with aircon on. Still got cat, egr but i think it has been chipped.

my dad rougly gets 25-28 town r motorway doesnt really change for him ?? he can be quite heavy on the right pedal tho a few times ...

Get a defender, I get 36 MPG average (town and Motorway) with A/C on.

Its an 90 TD5 with EGR off

what kind of advice is that? Mpg will be better in a disco because its geared longer

Well I have bought it now so it tough what MPG it does, I am looking forward to many many miles of laneing!
