Without going into too much technical detail a senior technician showed me the turbo full of vege guk,the pistons were black and burnt to hell gummed up to the hilt,the sump oil smelt of fish and chips,obviously polymerisation.

Do use veggie oil,but be wary that's all.

And why and how would a pre-heater stop this?

Two preheaters if you read threads thoroughly

Cold veggie going into injectors and pumps is bad news.

The warmer that oil is going into the vital parts the better,precisely why a two tank system is the dogs!!!!! Start up on deisel and switch over when warm i rest my case.

If veg oil was getting mixed with yer engine oil that points to other problems not related to the fact you were using veg oil. How do you mean "obviously polymerisation"? You're going to have to hit us with that technical detail

that only shows that the fuel you where using got into the turbo and sump, it doesn't actually tell you that the use of veggie oil was to blame.
as fer black pistons , well they usually are black on top and gummyness can be caused by engine oil getting in to the cylinders.

if you do a search for Prof. Jon H. Van Gerpen you see he has studied bio doosul and whatnot and he reckons,along with some other boffins that Saturated oils don't polymerise, so if the oil was to blame maybe you used the wrong type or it had an additive in it . it has bin mentioned on here countless times that you should only use pure oil and not something with additives in it.

judging by the number of folk wot use veggie oil or home made bio doosul and have no problems, its not that hard to figure out that maybe something else was to blame for yer time bomb

Today it occured to me that by using veg oil at today's prices I am saving the princely sum of about 3 quid a week off me travel to work costs. Henceforth I probably won't be bothering till something changes pricewise.

I asked this earlier in the thread, but you ignored it - if you read threads properly you would have seen it...

What has the temperature that the oil goes into the injectors and pumps got to do with polymerisation and glazing of the cylinders? If the oil starts burning from say (optimistically) 40 degrees after ebing pre-heated, what difference is it going to make to the residues it leaves behind?

Rest yer case, but do it properly - if you do it on the evidence you have given us here it will be quickly thrown out!

The turbo had apparently sucked up a load of oil from somewhere,there was a mention of flashpoints of different fluids also.

I will endeavour to contact the technician for a full rundown.
In the meantime stay cool, but dont stay still.

Veg oil does have a slightly higher flash point than diesel but it's a bit like binary, it either does or it doesn't.....and you'll be pleased to hear that it does.

My bovine faeces detector is bleepin away summat chronic here, i really don't think you know what yer talkin about and probably tryin to justify the expense of these wow heaters, by spouting off the propaganda they put on their websites.

I will ask you again, do you personally have an experience of veg oil causing the catastriphic failure of any part of your land rover engine, and know that it was caused as a direct result of using veg oil? Just yes or no.

I'm very concerned that the cost of fuel in general is causing my wallet to overheat. I'm scared it might go bang and blow me arse off.

you could always use old suspension bushes fer fuel; but then yerd need to get a warp drive to handle all that energy that will be released when they burn

There's only one place your turbo would be sucking from, which means.....someone must be pouring the oil in down your snorkel!

thats only true if yer talking about veggie/fuel oil cos if yer turbo fooks up it can suck the oil out yer sump and yer injun will run on that.
when it happens it usually causes a brown pants moment.
but if yer talking about fuel oil / doosul then it would have to get into the sump, perhaps past leaky rings and yerd have to have a knackerd turbo. otherwise someone has bin pouring it down yer snorkel

Justifying the expense of WOW Which is actually, V.O.W. Veg Oil Warmers
Not my bag.
£60.00 Quid + £20.00 to fit, got that back in 3 weeks,my mileage is 100 per day.
Propaganda is a bit harsh, i was trying to help others who possibly would willy nilly just chuck it in the tank and go,,on the strength of someone on this forum saying it's ok i have a mate that does it.
I think there is a bit more to it than that.
What is it about preheaters that worries you so?????
I was discussing yesterday with a fellow LR owner about his engine strip,and all the gum around his valves e.t.c. from using Veggie,he is using preheaters when it's all back together.
It may seem that i know not what im talking about,but i think i'm trying to help people a bit more than others.
By the way i have had some great ideas and tips from the forum.
After cleaning out my I.C. my LR sounds and drives differently.
