I'm hoping someone can help me here...... I've done a search but come up dry, I've posted this in the engine section too,.. right, here go's.....

We have a VM lump sitting on a pallet in the stores and I need to get the crank pulley off, I've heard you need a puller to get it off without breaking it? is this true? or will a big bar lever it off wothout doing any harm?

Oh and will a 2.4 VM crank pulley swap onto a 2.5 VM engine ok?

cheers in advance for any help

in my experience, yes you need a puller but not one with legs as this will pull the outer part off the damper rubber and leave the centre still on the shaft. As i remember there is provision for a bolt-on puller.Mount the puller on the pulley, tighten the centre bolt, then tighten the mounting bolts in sequence. This will break the taper very easily. If you try and use the centre bolt you will probably break the puller.Im not sure if the 2.4 will fit but it probably will.I fitted a 2.5 pulley to an engine out of an SDI with no problem.Good luck Alan:)

cheers for that alan, managed to get it off usin pretty much the same method, only with a puller with legs on the air con pulley and a tube onto the crank nut with some 8mm steel between the tube an the pullers bolt :)
