Engine swap, 2.5vm out and 200tdi in

Hi guys.
I have a 1992 4 door RRC which currently has the 2.5 VM engine.
I have just purchased a 200tdi engine and would like to swap them over. Can anyone here please tell me what is what with the swap, is it pretty straight forward and what I might need thankyou.
 
Welcome to Landyzone , I would ask in the Range Rover section, may get someone who knows what they’re talking about
As they both use LT77 gearbox, but looking at engine bay pics of the VM and the 200tdi
The injector pump, inlet and exhaust manifolds are on opposite sides don’t know about engine mountings, so not quite a straight swap in my opinion but obviously doable and probably more spare parts available

Personally I think this is a backwards step. The 2.5 VM makes more power than a Tdi and would easily outperform the Tdi on the road.

Loads of vehicles have used the VM unit over the years.

I'd be careful about changing the engine from a POV of originality affecting the value of the thing - but it is your car, so ...

Both the 200 and 300 Tdi are eminently tunable..

The VM's didn't have a lot more power according to both Wikipedia and this:-

Just do not mention head gaskets to any 2.4/2.5 vm owner!

They might not on paper have much more power, but it is more. They do drive better IMO. Not an engine to thrash, but our RRC would easily top 95mph and sit at motorway speeds no probs and in a straight line out perform a 3.5 EFI V8 RRC. A factory 200Tdi RRC felt like a backwards step in the day and I'd say the VM went better than my 200Tdi Disco or 300Tdi 90.
