Viscous fan

Just bought a td5 today after years of 300tdiand 200tdi ownership
Got home and the auto temp warning light comes on I've had a quick look and for some reason somebody has removed the viscous fan
WHY ????
Any clues from you guys and girls

possibly desperately trying to save money on fuel or it was knackered,auto box temp switches arent unknown for playing up but worth draining a little oil out and checking colour and also level

Could have failed and just been removed for the sale? Was it bought private or dealer sale?

You bought a Landy without looking under the bonnet?

let's hope the previous owner was not one of those who are convinced that running a Td5 without a fan is good cos no problems as the gauge stays nice at the middle... which is Boll*x cos it's possible that the engine ran a lot at 110*C without knowing it as the gauge goes up at 120... strange way of making business though to buy a car without inspecting under the bonnet first

I did go under the bonnet but never thought to look for a fan that I've never seen removed before
The auto box had a complete rebuild only 12000 miles ago how often does the ATF need swapping

id do it yearly on average mileage

How far did yo travel to get home? Is there radiator fluid in there after the journey?
