Hey everyone this is totally off the discovery subject but im hoping you will be willing to try and help me. I had BL Mini some years ago witch i gave the shell to a old freind witch i have lost contact with over the years Ive been thinking of building another track fast road mini for sometime. And while rooting through my toolbox i found the old VIN plate i want to know if i can get a logbook for the VIN plate i have and use the ID from the old mini to build a new one as i do know the old car was cut up to use panels. So my basic question is how do i go about getting the log book for the VIN plate i have. I do not know the registration of the vehicle the vin was fitted to nor do i know the engine number all i know is that the vin came from my grans old mini. And i want to use this ID to build another one kind of like in her memory but oviously i need a log book for the vin. Any ideas? Dan

Major non starter mate. DVLA announced when they changed the log books in the late 90's that all registered vehicles that were untaxed within a year and where the owner was not contactable then they'd assume the vehicle destroyed or broken up and all the details would be erased.

so the car is basicly never no more. Ill rivit the plate to me tool box then lol. Then then the dvla can sent me a reminder to tax my toolbox cus its got wheels and we know how they like to kill us on tax.... Does my 2001 disco go in the high tax bracket?

i would try dvla to see if you can get the log book ? the mini engines had a small steel plate riveted to the engine block which had the engine number stamped on it so any mini engine will do if you remove the plate. just tell them you have bought a mini thats in a million bits and want to restorate it and get it back on the road. whats the worst they can say ? its gonna be one of two answers, yes or no. and if any one here says its not legal or immoral tell em ta fack orf, ill wager a bet EVERY one who drives on this forum has atleast once in their lives BROKE the road traffic laws or vehicle laws. some people get quite ****y when you wanna do something like this but hey, laws are ment to be broken ! any ways if you cant get all the bits you need you can always have one nicked for parts, they aint hard to steal and break down very well cos they aint got numbers stamped all over them :)
