So I picked up my disco 2 today.

Won it on ebay for 850 notes with mot till next sept. Bit of a bargain! complete with a known oil into coolant problem so hopefully just the oil cooler.

Its an ES spec with all the goodies.

3 amigos are on but hopefully that will just be something simple.
Just ordered a oil cooler repair kit, full service kit and replacement oat coolant.
ALOT of oil in the coolant, it also split the top rad hose on the way home.

Still pleased though as it drives great!

Td5 seems to have survived the 100 mile drive home wit it leaking oil into the coolant.

Top rad hose is knackered though. The oils really weakened it.

reet all the bits have arrived to repair the oil cooler. The weather forecast for the weekend is looking absolutely crap, so i hope to try and squeeze it into the bottom garage (not sure if it will fit through the door yet). If nothing else ill get the front end in so i should be dry'ish for the work.

Fingers crossed no bolts shear! everything will be given a liberal dosing of plusgas beforehand.

Ive also got an egr blanking kit to fit whilst im there, all new filters, new rad hose, some dishwasher soap for cleaning out the pipes, and all new fluids.

Fingers crossed the head is ok.

well i started a few jobs last night, discovered it had a k&n panel filter fitted, albiet a completely blocked up with crap one. Thats come out and a proper paper element filter has gone in. Should help a bit. Soaked all the relevant nuts in penetrating oil and will do it again tonight so things "should" come off ok at the weekend.

Well I was off work today as pretty ill so I wrapped up and went outside to start the job on the disco.

Got rid of the egr.
Got the turbo off and that was about it before the weather went crap again. ALOT more oil in the coolant than I had hoped. More like oil with a splash of coolant!!!

Will get the cooler off tomorrow. Want to let the oil drain off the engine whee I've removed the coolant pipes as it's disgusting working on it at the moment

Well its done.

Getting the bolts back into the oil return pipe of the centrifugal filter was an utter &*¥£€ but otherwise not too hard a job.

A messy one though!! The driveways covered in creamy oil. I've already flushed the coolant twice after some runs with some washing power in it. Seems to be working abd gradually cleaning it out.

The heater suddenly started working wheb it wasn't before so it seems to be good!

Think I might have damaged the head though driving it back it doesn't seem to be as peppy as it was when I drove it back. Maybe it needs a good thrash. Will continue to flush the coolant a few more times. Until it's properly clear.

I noted that the banjos on the cooler were not tight at all. I'm wondering if this might have been the problem. There was literally like 10nm applied to undo them.

Anyway the new coolers in so fingers crossed.

Not at all

Just needed a normal 4x4 for the mrs :)

And the weather's been so crap I've been unable to do the jobs on the defenders that are left to do
