Any fellow Greenlaners out there know the state and condition of Viking Way (from Buckminster)?? I read some past threads and this one looks like a "must do", especially after reading how long it is.

Actually, only a small section of it is shut. It is is still possible to get from the water tower at buckminster to saltby airfield. however, once here, you have to exit the airfield by their main entrance onto the road between skillington and sproxton. if you then turn right out of the airfield to sproxton, turn right and head through sproxton and keep following that main road to the A607 (the main road between melton and grantham) in croxton kerrial. Turn right in croxton kerrial. Now there is the tricky part. Follow the A607 towards grantham. just outside croxton kerrial there is a sweeping left hand bend, followed by a long straight. at the end of this straight the road drops into a steep, winding hill. at the top of this hill woods begin on the left. this is where you turn onto a farm track. this is where the vking way have come to had the council not blocked it at the airfield.

It is still possible to get though claypole on the a1...but it involves a further bit of road driving. This bit of road begins at the gatehouse to belvoir castle.you can't continue over the road to follow the canel, you now have to turn left round the gatehouse, following the road down the steep winding hill into woolsthorpe. at the crossroad, turn right and head for a village whos name escapes me. you turn right at the end of this road and should find yourself going over the madest canel bridge ever. immediatley after this bridge is a hidden turn on the left. this is again the viking way and takes you all the way to the A1 on the junction after gonerby moor. One obstacle is the railway, which has a pair of gates that you have to open and close. the instuctions are well signposted.

I can garuntee this information for a couple of weeks after this post as i drove the whole route yesterday with some friends. One point i would like to make is the track in places is looking rutted and warn. please anyone who drives it go careful and don't go flailing your wheels or the council will end up shuting all of it.

Thanks
