Hi everybody - this is my first post....

I have a Defender TD5 1999 and I have noticed it has a vibration which is very evident in 1st, 2nd and 3rd especially when climbing hills and getting revs up.

Diminishes as I reach top gear although does not disappear. My thoughts initially were the UJ's/ prop but just by chance I noticed the viscous fan can be "rocked" back to front slightly which I assume means it is on it's way out.

Any experience of a faulty fan causing so much vibration?

I don't have a huge amount of experience and would welcome any thoughts on the subject.

Cheers

I replaced my fan with a new bearmach hublast year and although the original was pretty shot, i dont recall it vibrating, still i guess it wouldnt hurt replacing as there only about 30 quid.

have you tried running without the fan turning.Does it need tightening or is it shot through?

I've now replaced the viscous fan and although the problem hasn't totally disappeared it has improved a huge amount. The fan could be rocked from side to side before and is now ok.... I also seem to have more power!
I still think the UJ's are wearing so that will be the next job.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
