About a month ago I fitted new light surrounds along with the standard Defender side lights (replaced my enlarged NAS spec ones). I have been away in Canada for the last month and just arrived back home before Christmas, so I have not really driven my Defender all too much

However, I noticed a bit of an odd buzzing noise this evening any time the lights were on, and the key was in the ignition. Initially thought it might have been my air horn compressor and a bad earth, but not the case.

Discovered it to be the motorised headlights which I think were an optional extra on my era of vehicle 1999 300 Tdi? When adjusting down to 3 and back to 0 the noise stops temporarily, but then when you flick the lights off and put them back on again it comes back.

Right now, the motorised lights don't adjust. When I fitted the black light surrounds in I also purchased some new metal headlight retention brackets as the originals were badly corroded, fitted them and I just tightened them up pretty tight if I'm honest.

Is it just a case of me needing to slightly loosen the screws for the headlights to get the motor to engage properly and for the headlights to move up and down? Can anyone advise on how the adjustments to the headlights work?

I didn't realise the headlights themselves would move and assumed it would be the bulb inside or something lol.

Hope someone can assist

Thanks

Ryan
