Hi.I have a 1990 90 with a 300tdi engine and r380 gearbox.

The last couple of days it has started to vibrate approaching 50 mph. The gears have become very difficult to engage at a standstill, reverse is the worst. There is plenty of clean clutch fluid in the reservoir. I can't seem to find anything loose that may be causing this, but after a quick look around my drive I found this.

The nut is 19mm and the stud 10mm.

I've been all over the underside trying to see where this has come from to no avail. It looks like it may have snapped due to vibration. This is probably my fault starting it up and letting it run for 5 to 10 minutes on these frosty mornings we've been having.

Has anyone any idea where I should be looking ?.

This is my 90

Thanks in advance.

have you checked mounts on engine and gearbox, have you checked gear box oil,if nut is 19mm stud will be 12mm ,gears been difficult to engage does it feel like clucth not clearing properly as this can be warped clutch cover or air in clutch cylinders

Checked all that. It turned out to be the front propshaft universal joints causing the vibration. The sheared bolt I found turned out to be the bolt that attached the bulkhead to the chassis, it had sheared where it went into the rock sliders. The gear problem was down to the clutch slave cylinder giving up the ghost. Most likely caused by the vibration.

Propshaft all fixed now, changed both UJ's thanks to Busters guide. :)
